Summary
While he can't quench her unrequited love for Adrien, he can help heal her heart. It's already his anyway if he will still have it. They are two pining halves that can make a new kind of whole of their own design, a balm for all their disappointments, missed opportunities, longings, and regrets.
And so she kisses him. She kisses Chat because he's the one who's here, who's willing, who doesn't have anywhere else to run off to, who doesn't leave her at a loss for words when it comes to love and losing. Who doesn’t leave.
He's the one who stayed.
Ironically, words aren't needed. He gets it, deep down in a soul-level kind of aching way. She feels the truth of this when he kisses her back without hesitation because in his mind His Lady isn't his and never was and never will be. They don't need to say the word "settle" to know it hangs unspoken and stale/sour in the air.
Maybe it doesn't have to be “settle.” Maybe it can be “start.”
What if together they can build a love of second chances?
