Marriage. Ranpo guesses that’s the logical step to take for two people who are going to spend their whole lives together. He’s never thought much about weddings, as romantic relationships as a whole didn’t interest him for years, and he can’t say he understands the point of them― nothing would change about him and Edgar, if not maybe a decorative title, and the months of meticulous planning that come before the ceremony sound like a pain.
He’s ready to dismiss the idea entirely, but it takes him exactly two seconds to deduce that Edgar does care about marriage. A lot.

“It won’t if you keep doing that!” Otoya rubbed his head, “But yeah, it’s chill. Just don’t get a crush on me, okay?”
Next to him, Karasu stilled. Otoya was almost worried before he barked out a laugh.
“That won’t be a problem,” before Otoya could fire off a remark, he continued, “yer not my type anyway.”
Otoya blinked. Karasu continued eating like this wasn’t the most monumental moment of his best friend’s life.

This is a story about Peridot learning how to take a nap. Really.

When Edgar turns seven years old, he finds writing on the inside of his left wrist.
Well, it looks like writing, at least. It’s orderly, the small lines delicate and precise, making a neat column down the length of his inner arm. It isn’t ink, because it doesn’t smudge when Edgar runs his finger along the strokes. Not like it does when he draws on the palm of his hand during his class. The lines are in a warm brown, the same color as the freckles that dot his arms.

Ranpo is eight when he gets his soulmark, in a grayish-purple kanji along his wrist. It isn’t a big deal, not to him. Of course, his parents are ecstatic. They’re soulmates, so he guesses it makes sense that they’re happy for him. Even if he didn’t really want one in the first place.
