Hunter rolled his eyes and prepared for the oncoming interrogation. “She knows it’s a human thing,” he grumbled.
“Maybe you should tell her.”
Hunter scoffed. “It’s not a big deal.”

Lucifer thought about Charlie. The photograph in his pocket.
"Because I left my daughter. Because I lost my job. Because I spen months wiping a counter and pretending I wasn't dying inside." He looked back at Alastor. "You're the first thing that's made me feel like I'm not already dead."
Alastor went still. The bulb flickered.

“You came back,” she says. She hasn’t moved an inch from her spot.
“You knew I would.”
“Thousands of years, and you never fail to be predictable in at least this. That has always been your greatest failing, my dear Ozma. Lost causes.” The shadows in her hand swirl into each other before separating into four very familiar forms. “You always try, and you always fail.”
She blows the shadows to him, and they fall into nothing at his feet, leaving echoes of laughter. There is a part of him, long since packed into a small box and hidden away deep inside, that feels like it’s splintering.
The rest of his soul aches.

Summary
Qrow and Ozpin have had their routine down for nearly a decade: Qrow runs the modest coffee shop between Beacon and Atlas Academy, Ozpin comes in every day to do impressive, teacher-y things. One is refined and cultured... the other longs for a bottle at the end of the day. Qrow has no illusions about whether he stands a chance with Oz. He doesn't.
(Fate, it seems, thinks otherwise.)
