But she’s 23 and nothing really seems simple anymore, or maybe it never was.
So she says the cruelest thing she can think of: “You’re reminding me of Mia, you know.”

She tries to picture what they must look like; the five of them, with their school backpacks, silly graphic T-shirts, and hand-me-down flannels. Not like a promising softball team, certainly.
“Thoughts?” Dustin prompts.
“And prayers,” says Steve.
Jane has a crush, and the boys try their very best to act as her wingmen.

The first time it happens, Will classifies it as a little accident.
When he wakes, the morning sun is burning through the window onto their faces, and Mike’s cursing as he stands to close the curtains, stumbling all the way.
“Scoot over,” he grumbles, voice dry, and for a second Will can’t do anything other than sigh like a lovesick idiot. It’s a second too late for Mike, because he grumbles more words Will doesn’t catch under his breath and then physically pushes Will towards the wall to lay beside him, arm over Will’s middle. A second of silence passes, then Mike sighs, only to whine: “Fuck, my head hurts.”
Will can’t help it: he breaks down laughing, much to Mike’s offense.

But Katsuki’s heart is thudding out against his ribcage from inside with enough force to scare him. “Can I…?” Izuku’s hand slides under Katsuki’s shirt, strokes over the small of his back, and then walks down to the waistband of his sweats.
He’s waiting for Katsuki now. But the longer Katsuki thinks about how he needs to answer, the less he’s able to answer, and he’s—Izuku is so hesitant. He’s so careful when he brushes his fingertips over the front of his pants, and Katsuki tenses up in an instant.
“Izuku—fuck, not—not today, I—” He tries to shuffle Izuku back, further away from his lap to give himself space.
Izuku’s face is transparent. So easy to see the surprise and disappointment flash across it before resignation sets in. “Okay,” he whispers, sitting back. His hands are back on Katsuki’s shoulders, and even that feels like too much right now. “Sorry, Kacchan.”
