Summary
It starts like this: at age eight, a young boy looks in the mirror and realizes his reflection is wrong. Eight years later, that young girl raises her hand to help a woman in need, and her life as she knows it is ripped away.
Maybe it's for the best. New city, new name, new school. A chance to reinvent herself during her year-long probation, and if she's lucky, maybe the people of her hometown won't even recognize her afterwards.
Of course, it can never be that simple. Pieces shift on a cosmic chessboard, and the girl with the foolish heart raises her hand against injustice again.

Summary
Martin feels so nervous that he’s almost dizzy with it. He desperately wants to turn tail and run, to call this whole thing off. Except for how he knows he’d be mad at himself for weeks afterwards for doing it, maybe even months. He’s spent so long working himself up to this; is he seriously not even going to try?
Even though it’ll probably go terribly? a pessimistic voice in the back of his head chimes in.
“This is going to go great,” Martin mutters underneath his breath. “Just grand. Nothing’ll go wrong, you’ll see.”
He feels a flash of self consciousness, but none of the other passengers give him so much as a glance for muttering to himself, all of them either hiding away in headphones and earbuds or just dead eyed glazed over expressions as they stare blankly into the middle distance. None of them even suspect that he’s on his way to a kink club.

Jon heads deeper inside the taxidermy store. He has to walk slowly, carefully, and still almost pulls a fox to the floor when its fangs snag on his shirt. He’s carefully plucking the fabric free from the teeth when a light, airy, feminine voice says, “My, my, what do we have here?”

“You’re mine. I’ve made you mine. My pet.”
The word doesn’t even register at first. Jon keeps waiting for the follow up, the next part of the phrase. Pet project, perhaps, or pet sitter, somehow. Because you can’t just say things like that. It doesn’t compute. A person can’t just look someone in the eyes and tell them, point blank, that now they’re someone’s pet.
“Take your time,” Martin says softly. “I know it’s a big change.”
