Just shy of suggestive, which almost always zipped over the man’s head. He’d always smile anyways, or he’d blush and his words would stumble a little. But then he’d turn to her and look directly into her eyes and say something about how smart she was and how her determination amazed him with all the subtlety of a freight train derailing, one hand cupped against her cheek.
