Summary
"Those aren't my worst desires," the woman says simply. "And why should I trust you anyway? I don't even know your name."
"Natalie," she says, reaching out and offering her her hand.
The woman smiles like Natalie's given her something far bigger than just her name. That feeling is back, crawling its way up her spine and she fights the urge to squirm. She grabs Natalie's hand, shaking it far more aggressively than she expects from such a small woman.
"I'm Misty!" she replies, dropping her hand and picking up her drink again. "So I'm curious, how'd you meet this boyfriend of yours?"
————
Or: Natalie’s boyfriend is constantly calling his ex everything from a psychotic bitch to a deeply disturbed freak and she’s unfortunately and utterly fascinated by her. Unrelated; her new friend is pretty fucking weird too. -

Summary
There aren't many places it could still be hidden. She reaches behind herself to unclasp her bra, letting it fall to the floor with her other clothes. And at first, she doesn’t see it. It’s hardly noticeable if you’re looking at her straight on but it’s right fucking there. Tucked just under her left breast, in neat, bubbly hand writing, is her soulmate's name.
Misty.
And she’s borrowed her notes enough times that there’s no fucking doubt in her mind that it’s Misty Quigley’s name forever on her body.
——-
Or: Natalie gets a soulmark and handles it the only way she thinks she can: deny deny deny. Unfortunately, the truth always finds a way to make itself known -

Summary
“Who was your first kiss with?” Misty asks her suddenly, casual in a way that reminds Natalie the woman across from her probably practices shit like this.
The look she shoots Misty must convey how she feels, how ridiculous she finds this line of conversation.
“What?” Misty says, raising her hands up, “That’s the sort of thing girls talk about, isn't it?”
“Misty.”
Misty eyes her a second, critically, before she smiles wildly, “Fine then! I’ll go first!”
——————
Or: Natalie learns what Misty considers her first kiss and she’s horrified. She never wants to hear Misty say it ever again and kisses her over it. -

Summary
If anyone asks, Natalie can wash her own damn hair, thank you very much! It doesn’t matter that she’s hurt, she totally can! Don’t look at Misty! Why the hell are you looking at Misty?? She’s got nothing to do with anything!

Summary
There’s a deep longing in Misty, like there always is, for the same comfort offered in that hug.
She knows she can’t have it though.
Not when Van has never really liked her, doesn’t trust her and her hand is being forced into working with her. And really, all of that is the same with Nat these days, it’s just that Natalie-
Nat was the closest thing she’s had to a friend for a while out here but that’s over now. She never could tell if Nat felt the same but it felt so close sometimes.
——————
Or: Misty and Natalie take another walk in the woods, Misty thinks too much and the final conversation they have before Nat heads out. -

Summary
“Alright, I hope you feel bette-“
She’s cut off when a warm, clammy hand grabs her wrist. She looks down at Misty, who’s looking at her with big, sad eyes. Her hair is sticking to her forehead, heavy eye bags and the girl just looks like absolute shit. It makes Nat feel kinda bad for her.
“C-could you stay, just for a while? I’m so sick of being alone.”
And Misty seems so sincere, so vulnerable when she says that.
—————————
Or: Natalie is just supposed to bring a sick Misty her homework but somehow ends up taking care of her. She’s having a weird night, okay? -

Summary
“Hey Nat, could we maybe talk a second?”
She wants to say no. She really doesn’t want to talk to anyone. She wants to sit here and rot, thinking about all the shit she should’ve done differently and all that she’s done wrong. Try to swallow the fact she just picked out the way a man will be murdered later today. That she might have to pull the fucking trigger if she’s unlucky enough to pull the wrong card again. She wants to be alone so she can be angry and guilty and just plain fucking sad.
She doesn’t wanna say yes.
She doesn’t wanna do any of this.
————————
Or: Natalie is struggling with the guilt of it, Misty asks her to get her out of the draw and they both don’t feel so alone for a second. -

Summary
Eventually though, whatever ability Misty has to stay quiet fades away and she starts up again.
“You know, I really don’t get why Shauna and Mari can‘t just suck it up and get along. We’re all stuck out here together, we have to be able to rely on one another.”
A shockingly reasonable opinion on the situation from Misty Quigley of all people. Nat doesn’t say anything in response though, just gives a little hum of acknowledgment.
——————
Or: Misty and Natalie take a walk in the woods, Misty cannot stop talking and Natalie thinks too much.
