Ougai was fine with the idea of hopelessly pining over Fukuzawa from afar until the day he died.
Quite ironic really.
He had never expected for that same love to be what kills him.

Summary
John can’t remember when he fell in love with Charles. He supposes it doesn’t matter now anyways, seeing how Charles would never love nor like him back. And even if he did return John’s feelings, Charles would never be allowed to act upon them. So John will take every bit of attention he can get.
Charles remembers the exact moment he fell in love with the storm that was John Freedom. John brought a light that he didn’t even know was missing to his dull world. He can hardly remember the time before John, and can barely stand being without him now. But he has no other choice, if he wished to protect the younger one. From Charles’ own feelings, and the world that wishes to tear the newest superpower apart.
