Summary
Shane has been suspended from games following his fall on the ice and the news about his relationship with Ilya, as he tries to recover after the team turned its back on him and to defuse the media scandal.
Ilya wants to take advantage of Shane’s forced time off and invites him to a Centaurs game.
The timing isn’t right. The media is still harping on their relationship and Montreal’s humiliating loss, still wondering if Shane threw the game on purpose. Shane really wants to explain to Ilya that going to the Centaurs’ game and putting their relationship on public display isn’t the best option.
And now Shane has to decide—whether to stay the good boy for the League and the sponsors, or to support his boyfriend at the arena.

In a game against the Toronto Guardians, Dallas Kent provokes Shane Hollander, leading to one of the most brutal fights the Montreal Metros captain has been in. When answering questions in the post game interview, a question Shane wasn't expecting is asked, throwing into question the timeline he'd so meticulously planned with Ilya.

Once the glow of the cottage fades and the boys have to head back to the real world, they have to start the long difficult year being separated before Ilya signs with Ottawa. Or at least that was the plan, until Ilya opened his mouth and accidentally got himself traded to Montreal. But it’s fine, just one year for Ilya in Montreal and then their 10 year plan is back on track… Right?
Through their year on the same team, Ilya helps Shane come to terms with the fact that his team kinda sucks, Hayden gets chirped into oblivion but still realizes that maybe Ilya Rozanov isn’t nearly as bad of a guy as he thought, and Hollanov come to terms with a new question they didn’t expect to ask.

Shane shuffles his feet, nervously. “So, I met your mom. She’s really nice.”
Rozanov’s eyes cut to him and there’s something in there that Shane doesn’t understand. He hates how bad he is at reading people’s faces, especially now that Ilya is looking at him like he has said the worst possible thing he could say, instead of trying to make nice small talk like he intended to.
“What did you say?” Ilya asks.
Shane flinches and this time he is sure Ilya didn’t miss it. Rozanov’s cutting gaze is making his skin crawl in a way that makes him want to run and hide. He swallows hard and, with everything in him, he holds Rozanov’s gaze.
“I said,” Shane’s voice is shaky. “I met your mom. She’s really nice. We talked for a little while, before the figure skating started.”
“Is this a joke?” Ilya’s voice cracks on the last word. “Are you playing some kind of sick joke on me?”
