He knows her door well. He watches her disappear into it every day after practice, spinning her jingling keyring around her index finger as she happily skips away. As she pretends that nothing about the day matters, that nothing has ever mattered. He thought for a while that he admired her avoidance, that her strength was fascinating despite all of the backlash that trailed behind her like a ball and chain. And she was admirable, she was fascinating, even if he was sure he hated her somewhere deep down. He carried his veneration like his greatest secret, tucking it deep down between the confines of his ribcage and the agonizingly rapid beat of his heart. She was everything to him and nothing to them. She was cruel and she was kind. She was a marvel in her own right despite the fear and distaste that pooled within the depths of his gut.
