But then Eddie saw a whole pile of kids get in Harrington’s car, and he overheard Nancy Wheeler say that “Steve was babysitting,” and that image didn’t even remotely align with anything Eddie knew about King Steve “The Hair” Harrington, but he figured he didn’t know much, anyway, and it wasn’t any of his business, when it came down to it.
Eddie thought so little of it, in fact, that he had almost forgotten that Max had apparently been babysat by one Steve Harrington. That is, until Steve Harrington started showing up at the trailer park, picking up Max and driving away, and then Eddie wouldn’t see Max at home again for days on end.
Eddie didn’t know much about babysitting, but he was pretty sure the gigs were more of an hourly thing.

Summary
When Steve Harrington is nine years old, his babysitter takes him to a comic book store. Shuffling through the stacks mostly to appease her (comics really weren’t his thing), he happens upon a rare, out-of-print, first edition of an old comic from the ’70s.
"Stranger Things", the title reads. Something about it calls to him. He immediately knows he has to have it. His babysitter lets him buy it, and even takes him back to the bookstore and buys him the rest of the series on her own dime when he consumes the comic and needs the rest.
He grows up with the comics. They mean everything to him. Nothing feels real to him like the comics do, and no one around him understands. He grows up feeling like there's a wall between him and the rest of the 'real world' and nothing pierces it besides the stories he found when he was a kid.
Almost exactly eleven years after the comics first found him, he’s working a dead-end job at the Flea and Acrobat movie theater in town and not knowing what the hell is going to come next. Not really caring, either. That is, until Dustin Henderson careens to a stop in front of his ticket box.

But they’d latched onto him, and now Steve has people tweeting about him and asking if he has a girlfriend or a boyfriend or someone, making memes and TikToks and edits, there’s a fucking timer, apparently, on NBC, or so Erica’s saying there’s gonna be (and historically she can’t be trusted not to lie to Steve’s damn face for fun, so he’ll believe it when he sees it, right), when Finals for the team come around, counting down to his event. The Harrington countdown. And, like, someone called him Clark Kent during the team qualifications? Like! What the fuck. How fuckin’ wild, right? Him. Jesus!
