Summary
Hans never liked sharing. It just didn’t come naturally to him. Ownership did, and dominion, and defending what was his, by blade and blood. As lords were meant to do. He didn’t like asking for help, either. Or asking for anything. Demanding, maybe. But not asking. Certainly not pleading. So when he’d found himself doing both — asking, and sharing — it forced him to consider just how strange a shape he’d contorted himself into.
Hans asks Black Bartosch for a lesson. Bartosch is a patient, hands-on teacher.

Summary
The way his nose crinkles a bit when he laughs. The little creases by his eyes when he smiles. His blushes reaching all the way to his ears, as red as his forge’s fire. The way his voice, already warm, sounds warmer, hearthfire in winter. The way he curls up in Hans’ arms, sighing blissfully, while Hans holds him close and breathes him deep, smoke-scented. The whole world feels a little brighter, then, glowing like a blade on Henry’s anvil as he shapes it into something beautiful.

With the war on hold, the Devil's Pack is recalled to Rattay for a celebration — a union between the Lords of Poděbrad and Lipá, rendered through the marriage of one Hans Capon to Jitka of Kunštát. And while Henry and Hans struggle with the aftermath of Suchdol, war waits for no one.
King Wenceslas lingers in captivity. Sigismund still prowls the borders. And Sir Radzig Kobyla, Royal Hetman of the King, has another job for his son, one that will take Henry further from Rattay — and Hans — than he has ever been.

Summary
It wasn’t as though Henry were unfamiliar with strange desires, given everything they were, everything they’d done. But Hans’ cravings had taken a twisted shape, one altogether frightening. Henry was sweet, kind, above all gentle, and it was so very easy to love his gentleness.
But what Hans wanted was not gentle.

Summary
"Can I help with anything?"
The question comes out more as a desperate plea than a helpful offer, at least to Samuel's finely tuned ears. Henry sits at the table, looking too large for the seat he'd chosen, one leg bouncing to escape his idleness.
"You're a guest here, Henry," Mame answers. "Guests do not lift a finger, unless it is for eating."
A simple lesson in baking challah helps Samuel learn more about his brother, about his mother, and about himself.

Summary
Freckles on his shoulders, an old scar just under the collarbone from a wound Henry wasn’t there to defend him from, once. More lost details, more differences, more that persists only in Henry’s mind. Oh, to capture this, to sculpt or carve it. To be able to hold it in his hand with such pressure that it breaks the skin. To absorb it and let it absorb him.
Hans carves Henry a wooden figure of himself. Through blood and killing and stealing and coming home, it becomes the only real thing.

“You a sore loser, m’lord? Gonna make me chase you again, just to lose once more?”
There’s a challenge in his voice, a defiant tilt to his chin where he sizes Hans up. Hans watches him push sweaty hair out of his eyes, revealing a dark smudge under one cheek, and wonders if it’s dirt or blood from their little scuffle.
Hans swallows. “Once more,” he says simply. “Chase me.”
Catch me, he doesn’t say.Or, Hans finds himself on the other side of the hunt.
