Wind sighed, leaning back against a tree. “What is our goal?”
Legend snorted at the question. “It’s obvious, isn’t it? We’re here to find Link.”
The others all paused, processing that, and Link froze from where he was peeking out of the scarf.
“... That… makes sense,” Four said after a moment.
“I suppose that is fairly obvious,” Sky sighed. “But surely we’d have run into him by now?”
Pressing his back against a higher fold of scarf so he wasn’t visible anymore, Link took quick, panicked breaths, keeping as quiet as possible. They were looking for him.
Or: What if Hyrule was the last one to join the Chain, and what if he wasn't in the shape of a Hylian when he did it? And what if there were a lot of tears and some hugs at the very end?

Quick as anything, he releases his grip on Chip’s hair, and steps back. Chip falls forwards and catches himself right before he smacks his face on the ground.
Reuben has pulled another cigarette from his pocket, and is idling twirling it through his fingers. He exhales, chuckling to himself, all lightness and contempt. Nothing like he was a second ago.
“Let’s go find them, shall we, Chip?”

Chip’s breath catches inside his throat.
It’s not that he’s surprised, not really. There’s always been a part of Chip — deep in his ribcage — which knew this was coming. Of course his freedom was temporary, a brief interjection in some kind of never ending nightmare. Chip’s not ready, though — he’ll never be ready, not when his organs are dust and his crew is nothing more than a fable — so it can’t be true.
He won’t let it be true.
Chip never intends to tell anyone about his brother, not with a gun to his head. Unfortunately, the world has other plans.
