Summary
"Someone's feeling brave today," Vi says, twiddling her very large thumbs together. The machinery hums as it always does, a low blue glow splashing against the damp walls of the alleyway.
"Could say that about you," the thug says, muzzle of a sawn-off shotgun floating about as he gesticulates. "Coming all the way down here without backup."
Such poor muzzle discipline, she can almost hear the sniff in Caitlyn's voice in her head. She smiles, can't help it. "What can I say," Vi grins, baring her canines. "Sometimes we don't need the scary one."

Summary
Vi spends a moment watching, taking in the way the light that streams out from the ballroom dances over the creases of Caitlyn's uniform, the stray strands of her hair come free from the ponytail, the long fingers that keep a loose grip on the glass of bubbly almost done. She drinks in the slightest upturn of Caitlyn's lips, luxuriating almost in the knowledge that Caitlyn is having a good enough time to not have spotted her yet.
The moment does not last.
That one eye flicks up to her and now that smile grows.
"Ten years," Caitlyn says, voice drifting over. "Yet I learn a new thing about you every day."

It's with most of the composure that Mother has managed to drill into her that Caitlyn does not drop the lamp, shriek, or fling it into the opposite wall. She does consider doing all of the above, but what comes out instead is a strangled, "What in the blazes?"

Summary
Vi lounges, much like a lizard would, on one of the soft cream settees that dot the solarium. It isn't quite sunny enough to be outside. The clouds are an indecisive gray, the sky closer than usual, but she hums a tune to herself and settles in comfortably. She has a mug of her favorite brew resting on the coffee table and enough peace to finally spend some time with the book that came in with last month's shipment of tea.
A morning at the Kirammans'.

Summary
Caitlyn steals a moment to herself in the shade, finds herself wishing briefly that she had brought her camera with her. The way the sunlight catches aflame in the pink of Vi's hair. The spread of her shoulders, loose and shaking with laughter, the way her hands move smooth and calm, conducting the children around her in a dance none of them know about.
Then Vi looks up and it is a sunbeam, the first dawn, light creeping over the mountains warm and inevitable. Blue-grey eyes so warm she could drown in their depths, cheeks full and ruddy, that one grin that Caitlyn loves more than anything so, so wide.

And then Lux noticed something else – the painting that hung above the couch.
It was all strong colors and broken perspective that blended together into shapes that were clear and recognizable, but bordering on abstract. An ocean, swirls of blue on top of blue. A ship. A city on the background, a thin layer of white to represent the fog. And the lights, blurry, spilling over foreground and background like liquid.
A distinctively expressionist piece, Lux thought, fascinated.
And the signature at the bottom – that sharp ‘K’ that looked more like a sideways ‘V’, contrasting with the circular brush strokes above it.
“Huh.” Lux said, and brushed her fingers against the canvas, feeling the rough texture. “What do you know.”

Summary

Or, a Princess Diaries inspired AU where Cait and Vi fight for a throne and pretend they aren't also fighting for each other.
