I’m going to make Sumeru beautiful. And you’ll come see it when you’re back. I’ll take you there, and you’ll see it,” he tells Al-Haitham boldly, as if it’s fact. Kaveh glows with confidence, raising his chin and setting back his shoulders as best he can from where he is sprawled over the railing. Al-Haitham only hums.
After ten years of traveling together to save the world, immortal elf mage Al-Haitham and human hero Kaveh part ways. Upon his return, Al-Haitham is confronted with the ephemerality of human life and left to find his own dreams and adventure, the memory of Kaveh at his side all the while.

Kaveh has enough troubles on his plate even without dealing with his confusing relationship with and unfortunately lingering feelings for his stubborn, infuriating roommate. But when a strange conspiracy begins closing in on Al-Haitham and threatening the precarious balance of their daily lives, Kaveh finds himself having to reevaluate the nature of their relationship and reckon with the ghosts of the past.

There’s never really a good time, way, or reason to tell Kaveh about his long-lived, amoral, exiled, criminal ex-partner — who, Al-Haitham will note, was not any of those things at the time they were involved.
However, there is definitely a worst way for Kaveh to find out.

Prompto would later insist that everything came back to Ramuh. If the god of storms hadn’t locked himself away in a cave, they would never have gone inside to begin with, and certainly not for a second round. Thus they would have wholly avoided the catastrophe that followed.
But, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. Especially if the observer in question wears expensive Insomnia-manufactured spectacles and happens to be acutely intelligent, with exceptional attention to detail and the uncanny ability to sense guilt.
(i.e.: Noct had made some poor decisions in his life, but drinking the last of Ignis’ Ebony proved to be the worst.)

Summary
If someone tried to kill Noctis when he was a kid, there’s no reason people aren’t still trying. Prompto wants to stay in Noct’s orbit even after high school, and he decides the best way to do that is to start prepping for the Crownsguard entrance exam. If he can get into the Crownsguard, he’ll be able to do something if things go sideways when he’s out with Noct.
After an attempt on Noctis results in civilian casualties, neither Prompto nor Noctis are prepared for the political backlash. And when Noctis discovers that Prompto has Crownsguard ambitions, he wrestles with his desire to protect his best friend (and crush) and the reality that Prompto wants to put himself in danger for his sake.
