“Fuck,” John whispered almost inaudibly.
“Who am I? I’m a fr—no, that’s been overused. Ack! Nevermind. Better question, little peasant, do you know who you are to me? My present. Thank you so much, Arthur darling, for delivering him.”~~~
What if Arthur had used the talisman to revive Antoine, and then Kayne showed up and asked for the stone anyway?

“Are you going to kill me now?” his Arthur asks, shocking them both into another moment of tense, breathless apprehension. The question lingers in the air, Arthur’s hand remains inside that bag, and John’s eyes remain fixed on the other’s face. The other Arthur meets them with just about the same indifference he always has. Until at last, his eyes shift over to their bag as well.
“Are you?” he asks, and John can feel the way his friend’s fingers tighten around the cool metal of that gun, itching for that trigger, contemplating the question. It really would be so easy for him, wouldn’t it? To pull it out of that bag and aim it at his chest, knowing that John would not dare try to stop him, even if he wants to.
