Flustered and cornered, Shane injects his Captain Voice into the conversation. “Ma’am, I understand that you’re upset, but I paid for this seat and am going to stay here. You’ll have to find someone else willing to change places or just fly with the seat you booked. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you.”
She hisses like a goddamn tea kettle, and starts to say, “You are the most selfish man I’ve ever—” when another voice behind her says, “You are blocking my seat. Move.”
Shane and the woman turn to assess the new arrival. It turns out that his seat partner is well above six feet tall, ripped as hell, and knows how to deliver an excellent bitch face. He’s also the hottest man that Shane has ever seen in real life, including a chance run-in with Jensen Ackles at a Stars game.

Ilya Rozanov has never been quite right, either in the head or the heart.
The worst part about it, if he cared about that sort of thing anymore, was that there’s no real reason he can point to, nothing that’s happened in his life to make him this way. He could say it was his mother’s death, but that would be a lie.
Ilya has always been what he is.
The only thing his mother’s passing really did was to make him stop caring about it. The one person he tried for had left him, so why continue trying at all? He’ll play the game and live his normal, boring little life, but he knows no amount of playing pretend can change whatever invisible disease he was born with. So he will allow himself this one indulgence, this one vice.

Neither of them drink.
“Huh.” Alex says, eyes unreadable, “Do you want to?”
Henry has made many mistakes in life - most notably allowing Pez to talk him into an ill-advised keg stand that made him vomit all over his shirt - but he can’t bring himself to regret sleeping with Alex Claremont Diaz, campus' most renowned player.
Until Alex gets it into his head that he wants seconds, and Henry isn’t strong enough to not get feelings, so he does what he does best. He pushes him away.
But Alex isn’t one to give up easily.

Nora isn’t wrong on either front—the man is fucking beautiful. He might be the most stunning human being Alex has ever seen.
But he keeps brushing sand off of his ankles as if it’s personally offending him, nose wrinkled as he surveys the shoreline, bag still perched awkwardly on his shoulder.
Alex thinks he looks a little lost, and not in the sense that he doesn’t know that he’s found himself at the beach, but more in the metaphorical sense. Something about his eyes as he looks around with a white-knuckled grip on the strap of his bag, brow pinched on his forehead, makes Alex think he needs saving.
And, well.
Rescuing people is literally in Alex’s job description.
He just gets the bizarre sense that maybe he could be the person for the task.
