Henry nudges at Hans’ bicep with his nose and Hans clamps his arm tight to his side. “Surely your bath maids back in Rattay have had a look under your arms.”
“Yes, when they were washing me, as bath maids do,” Hans says. “And they didn’t look at me like a slobbering dog as they did so. I wish I had my mirror, you look like Mutt when you wave a piece of meat in his direction.”
“Ahh, I won’t bite unless you ask,” Henry teases. He nudges the crease between Hans’ bicep and his ribs once more. “Lift it up, show me.”
Henry seeks to show how he's missed every part of Hans while he's been locked away. Hans seeks to be marked by Henry as Henry is marked for him.

Summary
Hans knows what he’s doing is wrong. Reprehensible. Sinful in a way that Hans thought even he wouldn’t—couldn’t be. Morality as dictated by God never meant much to Hans, but at this point he’s far beyond His domain.
Henry just made it so damn easy.

“Pretty birdie…” He coos breathlessly, eyes flitting about the crown of Hans’s head as if seeing the flowers there.
He looks...drunk. And as much as Hans would like to owe that to his own skills he doubts a few cheeky pumps from two fingers would have Henry seeing the pearly gates.
"Henrryyyy," He coos. "What do poppy and henbane do precisely?"
After dealing with the witches of Uzhitz, Henry forgets to empty his bag before he goes hunting with his lord and lover.

And then Till looked over his shoulder, caught Ivan's gaze and held it. "Thank you. I know I'm really late in saying it. But I'm also really, really happy that I still have the chance to say it at all."
Till believed Ivan died sacrificing himself for him. Ivan believed Till died in the fiery destruction of the Alien Stage.
And neither knew that the other survived.
Eight years later, Till has settled into caring for the children he'd rescued from the Alien Stage Museum with the help of the rest of the Rebellion, while Ivan continues working to fulfill what he believes would have been Till's last wish. When they're reunited, they have the chance to say everything they should have said once upon a time and to discover the mutual love that once eluded them. Summary
Hans puts his arms around Henry and they sway, not quite dancing, grasping onto the tattered fragments of song and holding them tight. And it should be joyful but Henry feels the ache in his chest growing and glowing and expanding, cleaving him into mirrored fragments, because the music is so thin and distant and the forest reflections are so wild and strange and they will never do this properly, they will never dance before a minstrel, they will never be more than these phantoms in the dark.

Let them think his panic is because of the general situation, but they absolutely cannot be given the ammunition of figuring out the full extent of their relationship. “For you to explain why, after a year of searching, we find a wanted man in your house. Or do you not know how that came to be, Artemy Isidorovich?”
Any hopes he could possibly have had left of getting out of this with both of them intact disappears. Artemy doesn’t know what to do, he can’t talk to people like this, not with the finesse you need to get out of this kind of situation – Artemy knows how to work with reputation and favours, necessity and hard work earning people's respect. He has no idea how to make a man like this officer change his mind on executing them both.
OR: After a year, everything breaks; the Powers that Be were never going to let them get away, and Artemy struggles to breathe against the powerlessness as he has to figure out a way to put everything back together.
OR 2: The chase is over, the rat is caught. You can find him, but it will take time, and it will hurt.

Henry doesn't mind being second to that, because the sun left its kisses behind, in the freckles that dot Hans all over his back, clustered on the tops of his shoulders and arms, whispers of faded sunburns and brief boyhood escapes. Henry can't know every story, but he wants to ask, to try and hold all of them; he can't kiss every freckle, but he can try that, too.

Strange, flipped, subverted, this hesitation. Outside of this room, Henry has no hesitation when it comes to Hans. Out there in the world, his golden pourpoint covers the marks Henry leaves on him, hiding these blemishes against his unquestionable authority. Inside, naked, nowhere to hide. Uneasy equals. And one always trying to capitulate to the other.

“They wanted me to die in the plague along with Aglaya and Block and yet, the more information they received from us, the more they urged us to cure the incurable. To preserve the town. Do you hear me? They will not leave a town of miracles alone. It may not be right away… but they will send someone.”

There's no choice but to build a new life and live with the consequences, and so they do. But the events of the plague left deep wounds with the pain and fear of loss ever looming.
