Summary
It took him a bit longer than he was proud of to notice Livio, but to be fair, he was a bit preoccupied with his own grief to notice the man lurking quite a ways away from the entrance.
Vash, of course, reacted the way he always did; with a wave and a smile, or the closest he could get to the latter. Livio was a bit too far for Vash to be able to see his expression, but he could make an educated guess.
After all, some would think it was Livio's fault that Nicholas was dead.
Vash is sure Livio himself thinks so; they'd both been there when it happened, and it was only the two (well, three) of them in the aftermath. But Nicholas had died trying to get Livio out from under that damn Chapel's thumb, and Livio was here now. So.
So. Livio was here, and Nico wasn't. It cancels out, mostly, nothing lost and nothing gained, or at least it's what Vash wants to convince himself. That it had been worth it, in the end.(Modern AU)
Vash mourns the loss of his fiancé; Livio mourns the loss of a brother; Razlo is stuck between a rock and a hard place. -

The wind blows ashen through the trees. A thin sound echoes between the graves, bounces until it grows in volume and, like a sort of tinnitus, ingrains itself into his audio. He sees Kurusu bite down on his tongue, mouth a thin line. Sees something fire in his jaw.

Shinjiro raises an eyebrow again, because that’s enough of an answer for him anyway. “Yeah, that checks out. I can hear Junpei snoring from across the fuckin’ hall.”
This time, Makoto’s lip curls into something resembling a smirk, but he remains quiet.
Shinjiro finds that he doesn’t really mind the lack of responses. Especially since slowly, this terribly weird kid is easing out of his bent position hung over the railing, and now he’s looking up at the sky like literally anyone more normal would do. His reaches his hands out behind him so he can slouch into his arms, like he didn’t just spend however long dizzyingly close to nose-diving off their building.
He watches the kid’s fingers tap against the concrete in a rhythmic motion, to the beat of the double-bass drum he can hear blaring from the headphones still. He has no idea how this boy isn’t deaf by now, if his music is always this loud, and yet he seems as calm and collected as ever.
Tartarus will be an interesting ride with this kid at the helm, he thinks.

Summary
Several months into the barrier being broke and monsters roaming the surface, you finally meet one. It just so happens that you lose your job by defending this one. And given that you threatened to call the cops on your sleazy drug-using ex-boss, you, uh, probably lost your house too.
But this short, punny skeleton isn't one to leave a good soul hanging.
This seems to work out well since you felt like your life needed something new. This 'new' just so happens to include mingling with monsters. Oh, and you've a job as a singer/waitress at Grillby's new place. Same spiel, different setting -- and people. Oddly enough, this may have been the exact thing you needed. -

It's also the home of the monsters that emerged from deep within Mount Ebott.
You, having left your strict family upbringing to chase after your love for the ocean and a dream to become a professional dance choreographer, find yourself in a city quite unlike any other. But life continues much as it always has since you moved here. You work in the local surf shop, train for the biggest dance competition of your life, and spend all of your free time in the water. That is, until a chance encounter leads you to meet a monster who turns up the heat in your life.
As for said monster? He's never met a human with hair as bright as his flames. He finds himself drawn to you for reasons he can't fully understand. So the question you both have to wonder is:
