One ultrasound later and they’d been abruptly rolled into the OR for an emergency c-section before the loose knot that they’d seen in the baby’s cord pulled tight enough to cut off all blood and air to his little body. Kem had cried through the whole thing as Carter clung onto her hand and tried to think of something comforting to say.
He never quite managed it.
Their son had been brought out of her body without a sound.
