It was supposed to be quick and simple, all she had to do was stay there while the lawyer works things out, and then she would be free to go on with her teaching. Then she met the young and carefree Samira Mohan and her entire outlook on life was flipped on it's head.

“No,” Emery snaps. “No, you know what’s ridiculous? You harassing a resident for simply being human. We all have issues, Robby, and it is beyond fucking awful of you to say the things I heard. Mommy issues, really? That’s incredibly low of you.” She pauses to catch her breath despite being on a roll, glancing over at Samira and nodding at her in silent reassurance that everything’s okay.
“Dr Mohan is probably the best one down here, better than all of us. And you know why? Because she takes the time to see her patients as people. I will never understand why that pisses you off, nor will I ever try to. But at the very least, you owe her basic human decency even though you apparently aren’t capable of that, not yelling at her in front of her colleagues because she doesn't believe in stuffing her baggage down and repressing her feelings the way you do.”

Summary
None of this was ever supposed to happen. Samira was supposed to be dedicated to her studies, not getting distracted by having feelings for someone she was never supposed to have feelings for. Emery was never supposed to happen.
Everything with Emery was supposed to just be some summer fling, something thrilling and fun while the campus was a ghost town and her thesis advisor was away for a couple of months. Dragging herself out of the warmth of Emery’s bed and flinching when her feet hit the cold floor while the first weak rays of winter light peeked in through the blinds wasn’t part of the plan.
Samira's having a quarter-life crisis.
