“It isn’t my apartment, just a safehouse.” Jason doesn’t look up from where he’s emptying the cache on his guns.

In all honesty, Damian had no clue how he got here.
‘Here’ being a completely pointless, utterly stupid and probably somewhat dangerous idea since it was Timothy who had dragged him here despite him being, quote on quote “grounded”. His mother had never grounded him before, though he suspected it was more of a situation where she hadn’t really been grounded either, and so, the thought of doing it to Damian had never crossed her mind. Damian thinks, whilst shaking unsteadily on his feet, that he’d prefer being secluded to his room with his Naruto manga volumes for company over this any day.
“Timothy, if this is revenge for me trying to kill you, I need you to know I’m not sorry.” Damian’s eyes were clamped shut, hands fisting Tim’s hoodie so tightly that if Tim tried moving, he simply wouldn't be able to.

Even without context, as always Dick is enthralling in his storytelling. “What’s happening?” Tim asks, fascinated to know what’s got Dick so animated this time.
It’s the smallest of expressions.
Dick blinks at him, like for a moment, he forgot Tim was there.
Then he’s twisting in his chair to face him, eyes bright with the promise of a new audience. “Okay, so - remember how I told you about my new manager at the studio? Well get this - he made this new rule that audience members aren’t allowed to wear hats when they come to see the kids’ recitals. It’s part of the ‘audience dress code’, a thing which one hundred percent he just made up himself - ”
Tim watches Dick attentively. He laughs at all the right points. He even lets out a small gasp when he knows it’s expected.
And it’s good. It’s a good story, and Dick is so happy to tell it.

The frustrating thing when he gets like this is that it’s never triggered by anything real.

There are certain things that Dick and Bruce don’t talk about. Things like how Dick has always been able to understand what Bruce means when he grunts, or how he sometimes uses moves that Bruce hasn’t taught him yet, or how Bruce has red-yellow-green things everywhere and had installed a gymnastics room before even meeting Dick. It’s not like they can do anything about it, all the bits of knowing and feeling that appear like muscle memory and slip away like dreams. It’s just… how things are for them. It’s normal for the Manor to feel empty and quiet and lonely, filled with a pervasive sense of something missing. Dick sometimes finds himself wandering around, as if he could just find the right room then he could stick his head in and find—someone. Someones, plural.
(Or, the Bats don’t quite remember each other. They know no names, no faces, no details. But they remember enough, and once they find each other, it’ll take the world ending again before they let go.)
