Summary
Kevin is used to pain. Used to the burn in his lungs, the ache in his shoulders, the sharp bite of muscles pushed past what they were ever meant to endure. Pain is familiar. Pain is controllable. Pain is the price of excellence Kevin has always paid without hesitation.
But this pain was another beast. It isn’t the clean pain of impact or the manageable throb of overuse. This pain was bright, blinding, catastrophic. It’s a lightning strike that starts in his lower back and radiates outward. Down his legs. Up his neck. Sharp enough to steal his thoughts.
Andrew drops to a crouch, hands hovering helplessly. His face is pale, eyes holding barely concealed terror. “Don’t move,” he says quickly. “The medics are coming.”
Kevin swallows hard. “I- I can’t,” he admits, the words tearing out of him before he can stop them. His voice shakes. He hates that. “My back-”

Summary
“We’re supposed to play Court together, remember? The three of us.” A pitiful moaned escaped Neil’s throat as he leaned down and laid his head on Kevin’s chest “You can’t leave me” Neil whispered, with a type a desperate panic Kevin is not sure he’s heard from him before “Please”
Or
Kevin has been lost to the world for long enough, and he is tired of wasting time.

They could all hear the struggle happening a room away.
“Neil drop it! STOP.”
“You’re not gonna throw a chair at me”
“I’ll do it. I swear to god.”
A manic laugh filled the air.
“DROP IT RIGHT NOW!”
Or: Kevin forgets an essential piece of Neil's food order so Neil must enact revenge, he must.

Kevin wanted to cry. He wanted to cry for his dad to find him. He wanted to cry for Andrew because he looked dead, slumped against the wheel. He wanted to cry because he didn't try hard enough to warn Neil, who’s now unconscious on the cement road, possibly dead too.
Or
Kevin grew up in the spotlight, he was used to fan encounters. But when he catches the eye of a certain fan that seems too watchful, Kevin doesn’t realize that he’s become prey until it's too late.

Summary
His height and build make it near impossible for him to imagine squeezing in beside them without it resulting in the three of them pressed all together. They would have done it once upon a time, back when they played for the Foxes. Kevin fondly remembers sitting pressed alongside Andrew, an anchor, while Neil sat on his other side just as close.
But that was then. Now the lines are unclear, and Kevin's train of thought only serves to further the discomfort seeping into his skin.
Or, it's been years since the Foxes left PSU and Kevin questions where his place is with his former teammates.

Summary
“Three days?”
Kevin pinches the bridge of his nose, setting down his second cup of coffee that morning while adjusting the loose grip he has on his phone. “I’ll live,” he shrugs, stretching his mouth open on an empty yawn and popping his jaw, massaging along the joint and bone. “You’ve gone longer.”
He listens as Andrew sets his phone down, presumably on the counter by the sound it makes. Just loud enough to make him flinch. “Take something,” Andrew chides, sounding further away. “I do not need you falling asleep waiting for the bus and waking up hogtied in someone's basement.”
Kevin scoffs, both at the prospect of him taking public transport and getting kidnapped. “I don’t even feel tired.”
“Right,” Andrew deadpans. “Tell me that again in a few hours.”
Kevin hasn't slept properly in days. It only makes sense that it triggers a horrific migraine.

Summary
He bent down and began soaking up the tea, gathering the pieces of the shattered mug into a little pile as he went.
When he soaked up all the liquid, he tossed the towel into the sink and dropped down beside the pile.
He could fix this. He could.
He sifted through the jagged edges until he found two that looked like they went together, the edges and colors matching. But when he held them together, they didn’t fit quite right. It was as if pieces even smaller had broken off so they couldn’t go together again, and Kevin sifted through the pile for them, but they were so minuscule he couldn’t tell which they were or if they were even in the pile at all.
His eyes heated, and his throat felt tight as he set the pieces down and picked up two others, trying to make them fit again. But it was the same problem, over and over and over, until tears were rolling down his cheeks.
It was stupid to cry over a broken cup, but –
He grabbed a piece, turning it over in his hand, a little Ferris wheel car visible.
It was the first trip he and Jean had ever taken together outside of games.
