Vi swallowed.
He loved this—loved them, a lot—but sometimes his mind wandered a step further.
He imagined a child tucked between them, half-asleep and warm, Caitlyn humming under her breath while Vi traced slow circles over a tiny back. He imagined a morning filled with chaos, pancakes, and toys scattered across the floor. He imagined a small version of him and Caitlyn running around the house, giggles echoing throughout the hallways.
Caitlyn and him had been married for three years now, and though they had been the happiest years of Vi’s life, he couldn’t ignore the quiet ache in his chest—the longing for a child of his own. Vi had grown up with siblings, surrounded by noise and chaos and shared space, and he’d lost the chance to watch them grow up the way he should have.
