The first time Cheng Shaoshang’s life was upended by war, she lost her family. The second time Cheng Shaoshang’s life was upended by war, she lost her heart. Just a little bit, maybe. Commoners like her cannot afford to be wishful. She doesn’t even know his name or who he is, only that he saved her life, and had roughened hands and gentle eyes.
Or, tragedy befalls the Chengs, and Cheng Shaoshang is taken in and raised by a common healer. Some things change. Other things stay the same.
