A rusted highway sign—“Welcome to Hell’s Kitchen”—stood half-rotted and crooked at the edge of an overpass. It had been repurposed into a grotesque crucifix, two beams lashed together with frayed steel cable, bent rebar, and duct tape stained black with blood.
Matt Murdock hung spread-eagle across it. Bare-chested, arms stretched unnaturally wide, wrists driven through with six-inch bolts that pinned him into the corroded metal. Rust mixed with blood where flesh tore around the puncture sites. Nails through the heels—one foot twisted behind the other, pinned straight through bone into the vertical beam. His legs hung slack, knees bent, every muscle long since exhausted.
A sign hung below him, scrawled in jagged letters across cardboard, soaked red and tied to the post with wire:
“DEVIL OF HELL’S KITCHEN.
NOW BLEEDING FOR YOUR SINS.”

Summary
Matt was just trying to save lives that night that Hell’s Kitchen was on fire. Now the world knows who he is, and he has two options:
Be a lapdog for the NYPD or be spirited away by the government and used as they see fit.
As much as they abhor the idea, Matt and Foggy know Matt has a better chance if he accepts the NYPD’s deal. Unfortunately, things always go worse than expected, don’t they? Who needs rights, anyway.
