“It’s not even 11pm.” Guillermo crosses his arms. “I’m going to McDonald’s.”
Nandor raises an eyebrow. “To eat?”
“No, to do pilates,” Guillermo snarks. “Yes, to eat. You know, that silly thing humans have to do. Which I am, by the way. Still human! In case you had forgotten.”“Stop with this,” Nandor grumbles. And then, “Okay. I will come with you to the McDonald’s. I will get my going-out cloak.”
Guillermo stares at Nandor, who is already turning to walk away. He stammers, “But… why?”
Nandor whirls back around dramatically. “You are the one who wanted to ‘hang out’,” he snaps. “So stop with this questioning.” And then he’s off, stomping up the stairs in an unwarranted hurry.
Or: Guillermo and Nandor try to navigate their "friendship" now that Guillermo is a cool vampire murderer. It's super.

The thing is that, logically, Guillermo knew there was no way he was the first-ever trans vampire. Creatures that have existed for centuries upon centuries, and some guy from The Bronx is the first one not to be cis? Please. He’s seen far too much shit to be that naive.
It’s just that all of that was hypothetical. Guillermo follows Nadja into most of her higher-level meetings, and accompanies her most times she leaves the house, but he stays out in the waiting area in a comfy green chair that he’s more or less designated as his own for everything else. Meetings with lower-level individuals, like the one Nadja’s currently in, aren’t enough of a threat for her to need protection, and he’s also often sent out when she’s trying to get work done on her own, because she “finds the rattling of his heart in his chest distracting.”
(“I like that I can hear you coming, Guillermo,” Nandor once said, a few years ago, with his hand pressed to Guillermo’s chest in a moment of drug-blood-induced lucidity. Guillermo doesn’t want to think about that.)

Guillermo can smell the blood sticking to his fur collar, thick and rusty. He touches the back of the chair opposite Guillermo’s with a broad hand, tilts it back and says, “Can I sit down?”
Guillermo says, “Why are you covered in blood?”
“I fell. Can I sit?”
“Yes, of course.”
“Thank you.”

Summary
When Nandor speaks to him — when he thinks Nandor is speaking to him, rather — it sounds not quite like it’s coming from outside him, but not quite from inside his head. The seconds before his voice cuts through sound like the way Guillermo’s ears would pop on a plane; a change in pressure as the ethereal reception clears.
He decides that, imagination or not, there’s no harm in responding. It gives him something to do.
