A Foreword by the Scholar Zuyen:
It has been a long upheld truth of our great nation that after the twin falls of the disgraced Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Azula, and their subsequent imprisonments, neither of the two ever regained contact with our well-respected Fire Lord Zuko. While Fire Lord Zuko ensured the humane holding conditions of his estranged father and sister immediately after his ascension to the throne, he reportedly never saw a need to continue communications with them. Before writing this book, my answer to such an obvious statement would have been, "Blasting flames—well of course he didn't!" Now, though, my answer would be quite different. But best leave that til later.
Fire Lord Zuko, when questioned about such matters, only ever gave one answer in response, saying: “A true leader has no need for snakes and scoundrels. Dragons are far superior.”
Given his far more professional reply, it is no wonder that he was the fire lord and I am a less-than-humble scholar.

It's just two weak pillars supporting one another. What difference does it make if they get married?
From the perspective of canon, not much. They are so low-key about the relationship that not even all the other Hashira know about it. Giyuu and Shinobu promised one another to prioritize their demon slaying missions, but that locus of priority can make it difficult to navigate their roles as spouses. What happens with their missions is of no real concern to the other, right? Maybe they both need to talk more, before they find bigger things to argue about than fictional baby names.This is the chronological version of my somewhat popular Tumblr-based AU, with doodles showing how this sort of lens through which to view canon either makes everything funnier or much more painful. The doodles will be posted here as relevant, but long-time followers of the AU have lots of new material to look forward to.

Mitsuri remembered the first time they met. She had been lost in the house and could not find her way to the main hall. When she finally found someone it was him. He had been walking away from her, his back turned to her in his black and white striped haori. When she raised her voice to ask for help, he turned around and she noticed three things.
First, his eyes were two different colors. One a golden amber liquid and the other one was the color of ocean water. They were beautiful and stunning. She had never met anyone with two different colored eyes. The second thing was the white bandages covering the lower half of his face. A white snake with red eyes was coiled around his neck complimenting his haori. Its tongue darted out tasting the crisp air.
