Summary
“Am I supposed to care about your journey there?” Ashe’s voice gets Felix to slowly rise to his feet. Ashe watches his every move, eyes less narrowed this time. Confusion knits his brows and he takes a deep breath, a little bit of that signature Ashe softness filling out his cheeks as he exhales. Felix crosses his arms and looks at his feet.
“No,” Mercedes answers, “not our safety. But I’d like to save this girl, if I can.”
“The nerve,” Ashes whispers, shaking his head. He looks up at the sky as a sparrow flies north overhead. He runs a hand through his hair and says, “I don’t want to be your path to retribution.”
“It’s too late for that,” Felix mutters alongside Mercedes, the both of them blinking at each other.

Summary
They haven’t spoken much since then, or at all, really. Dedue is a fair man, and he’s well aware that there are things much bigger than them at play right now, and their attention needs to be undivided. Sylvain hasn’t been ignoring him, either. They exchange pleasantries and acknowledge each other in war talk when prompted, but other than that, there’s been a yawning canyon neither of them have tried to leap over. Every evening since, Dedue strains his ears, waits for a light knock on his door. He imagines himself opening it and welcoming in a radiant breeze that carries the scent of mint with it into his room.
But there’s been no knock. Dedue has even taken to wandering Sylvain’s old late night haunts only to come up empty, the moonlight illuminating the absence to his right.

Summary
The thing is, Caspar really does believe in ghosts with his entire chest. He’s seen them with his eyeballs several times. That’s why he invested an entire fifty dollars on their crappy camcorder in the first place, to get it all on camera. His genuine sincerity about all things paranormal is a boon, and Linhardt’s skepticism an even greater one (see point #1). However, Linhardt’s skepticism seems to dispel all traces of the Great Beyond by the sheer force of his unwavering self-confidence. Literally. Caspar doesn’t really know how to explain it, he’s never been good at finding the words without sounding deranged, but the situations it has put him in has paid for their apartment. So, like, fine. He’ll deal.

“I did! I picked up a hold.” Sylvain slings his tote around and pulls out Tess Gunty’s new book. He’s holding it up like Felix is supposed to acknowledge his taste in literary fiction and not the hopeless excuse of almost-maybe-supposed-to-be blonde sitting on Sylvain’s head like a dull crown. “I just walked by a hair salon on my way there and had a thought.” He shrugs it off as if he’d stopped to grab toilet paper, and Felix reaches out to catch it before it splatters onto the ground.
“You should have bought a Porsche.”

Summary
“Okay,” Iwaizumi snorts, catching a glimpse of Oikawa’s pout beneath the shelter of his hood. He resists the urge to shoulder check Oikawa’s horse with his own. He’s already toeing the line on the appropriate amount of casualty that can exist between a knight and his prince, and Iwaizumi has always been a man of principle and duty despite an entire childhood flapping behind them like capes.
He wants to snatch his wrist, tell him to ease up, pinch his cheek until it’s pink and free from Oikawa’s teeth, but all he can offer him is his unwavering service. He knows that Oikawa finds value and comfort in his lifelong loyalty, but when Iwaizumi sees him like this, it’s difficult to repress the urge to offer him more.

Now Tooru looks at the pothos, how it cascades like a waterfall and curls around the windowframe; how it takes up a larger space in Tooru’s lived-in apartment than anything else ever has. He wonders what Iwaizumi would think of it all: the new pot he’d bought after it had outgrown the one on his windowsill, the little hooks he’d put up to keep its longer stems in place. The endless yield of love and the extent of its longing.
Still, he lets it continue to grow.

Felix remembers the last expression he has seen on the professor’s face when he was alive; how there was no horror, no shock, no sadness - only bitter disappointment, as though she looked down on him, as though she believed Felix would have done better, should have done better, was this the true extent of his determination to live?
The girl’s face twists again, and her gaze slides to the multitude of shards dancing above the faraway shore. “This fragment is doomed. Your deaths were meaningless. Both of you… You are doomed to die until you find a way out.”Felix and Sylvain search for a miracle. It would be nice if they found each other in the process.
