(AKA pacific overtures: act 1 and a half.) shortly after the first act, kayama is lost in the wake of his mission which has torn his life apart. he looks to manjiro for solace.
"After the trade agreement had been finished, and after they had destroyed the house, and the mats, and every bit of evidence that the Americans were ever there, Kayama and Manjiro returned to the shore. Perhaps it was in celebration of their completed mission, though it felt more like mourning. They had sat in silence for a long while, watching the waves crash and recede, gently, steadily back and forth. Everything swayed: The leaves, the trees, the grass, the waves. Kayama thought the only unreliable thing was themselves, sitting sedentarily in the sand. He would glance aside at Manjiro and watch his hair sway gently, too."

Summary
He is neither Lee Harvey Oswald nor The Balladeer, but rather something or someone in between. He sees Czolgosz raising his gun and firing. He feels Guiteau's heartbeat pounding beneath his hand. He hears Booth crying on a barn floor. They are just as bright and vivid as the weight of the rifle in his hand and the pushback as he shoots the President of the United States, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
Some of it is blurry. Most of it is impossible. Either way, he is stuck in a carnival surrounded by a bunch of would-be assassins until the end of time.
