Summary
Without a word, Mike joined Will with his back against the cold brick wall. He reached in his pocket for something, and soon after Will heard the tell-tale chick-chicks of Mike using his lighter. Sometimes he’d pull it out and fidget with it like a toy. It pissed his mom and Mrs Wheeler off, but Will didn’t mind. He understood. Sometimes, it’s nice to feel in control of something as chaotic as fire.
The flame was so bright in the dark alleyway, Will couldn’t help but be drawn to it. He watched Mike bring the flame up to his face and light a cigarette—god knows where it came from. Will tried not to think about it. He’d never see Mike smoke before, and he wasn’t entirely sure how he felt about it. On one hand, it was gross. On the other hand, the way he held the cigarette in his mouth and inhaled like it was giving him life—it was so…captivating. He watched Mike’s side profile, the angle of his jaw and the sharpness of his nose, as he tilted his head back against the wall and exhaled smoke into the wind.
