“Wretch,” I cried, “thy god hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee
Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”~~~
Dear Jax,
Why do I begin all these letters with "dear Jax?" You weren't dear to me at all! You were an insufferable, insensitive, unlikeable, violent jackass who had absolutely no interest in changing. But I guess part of me assumed you'd give it up some day and get better. I don't know why, but the idea of you not getting a happy ending never felt real until you were already gone.
. . .
Or, Jax's abstraction hits Zooble a lot harder than they were expecting. They don't know how to explain this, not even to themself. At Kinger's suggestion, they attempt to anyway--through letters. They think it's stupid and pointless, but something makes them keep writing anyway.

"You're not dead," Pomni said with a frown. "Not yet, at least. You're just — indisposed."
At that, Jax gave her a long look as his mouth narrowed out into a little line. Then he sighed quietly. It wasn't the way he used to sigh, with dramatic posturing that begged the attention from anyone even remotely listening. It was small. Tired. Reflexive. Then he sat down with his knees to his chest, glaring into the dark water. The only light here, a single streetlamp, glowed weakly.
"Denial is an ugly color on you. Clashes with your stupid hat."
"Jax — "
"I'm gone," he snapped. His voice echoed in the abyss. "Don't you get it? No one comes back from Abstraction. You're not saving me, you're not helping me grow. All you're doing is keeping my body from rotting." Jax's hands worked their way up to his head, squeezing as he growled, "You're talking to a ghost."
or, a post-canon fix-it fic, featuring the De-Abstraction of Jax. It's messy and it takes time, but it's never too late to try.

Summary
The night before the five of you will open Jouvente's easternmost House and confront the King, Siffrin tells you that he wants to share something deeply important—a name.
You'd love nothing more than to respond in kind, but you've only been "Odile" as long as you can remember.
—
In a world where Ka Bue disappears instead of the northern island, the party talks about names—or tries to.

Summary
“...What about you, Siffrin?”
You look up with tired eyes at your companions when Mirabelle gives your cue to speak. You weren't quite listening, but you already know what she's asking—why wouldn't you, when you've heard it all already again and again? That blinding question about what to do with your dead body doesn’t even matter, because it has never applied to you, doesn’t apply to you, and possibly never will apply to you.
What about you, Siffrin? Throw my ashes to the sky! What about you, Siffrin? Bury me on the highest peak! What about you, Siffrin? It won't happen, so it doesn't matter!
What about you, Siffrin?
Throw my ashes on the highest peak, so it doesn't matter!
…
But it does matter, doesn't it?
You think about a question that will never apply to you.
