Unfortunately, everyone at school also knew way too much about Conrad Fisher and Belly Conklin dating.
By mid-March, the teachers had developed a system.
It didn't help.
Because Conrad and Belly were not subtle.
Not even a little.
They were crooked ties and swollen lips. They were Belly laughing into Conrad’s shoulder while he looked at her like the rest of the world had disappeared. They were Conrad pulling her back for one more kiss when literally every adult in the building had already told them to stop. They were late bells, detention threats, Steven gagging at lunch, Jeremiah laughing until he cried, and teachers saying their names with the exhausted disappointment of people who had simply seen too much.
Five times the teachers separated Conrad and Belly.
And one time no one did.
