Summary
Richie remembered- before that, on the first day of kindergarten, when they took turns in a circle introducing themselves. They had to say their name and a fun fact about themselves. Stan had stood stiffly, and said, with a voice tighter than the hooks on his suspenders:
“My name is Stanley Uris. I like birds.”
And he sat promptly back down, clutched at his arms, ducked his head, made a face and generally looked like he wanted a hole to open up in the floor to swallow him whole. Unfortunately for him, Richie had had even less of a filter as a 5 year old.
“Your last name sounds like piss,” he had turned to Stanley and said, definitely loud enough that everybody else could hear.

Summary
On the fourth day of Hanukkah when the menorah was nearly halfway lit and the Losers called Stan and told him to meet them in the clubhouse, he didn’t know what he was meant to expect.
Well, he knew what he hadn’t been expecting when he climbed down the ladder and into the clubhouse- an honest to God real, full blown shrub in the corner- leatherwood, if he wasn’t mistaken- decorated with blue and white ornaments strung with yellow thread and made up of paper and fabric and cut into the (at that point barely recognizable) shapes of candlesticks and stars of David (some stars only had five points originally, with an extra point messily taped on).
Stan tugged the sleeves of his cardigan down fastidiously. He was glad it wasn’t a useful one like a buttonbush.
“What is- what is this for?” he turned and asked the others, all of whom were shifting on their feet nervously.

In return, Sua gives her answers. The simpler ones. "239 is a prime number, so there's no dividing it perfectly," she says, writing down the answer in the blank space. Filling up the empty corners in Mizi's life, arriving at the conclusion she herself has been skirting around. "It should be around 21.7272727? The numbers will just keep re-occurring. There's no clear end to them."
That's what the sea is like, Mizi wants to tell her. Instead, she leans up to peck Sua on the cheek. It's yet another thing that goes unsaid.
(Or: It is hard for Mizi to keep count of the truths and lies. After all, Sua is the one who has always been good at math.)
