Summary
There's a few things Buck does when he's nervous. Or, not even nervous necessarily, just crawling with excess energy. Those times when his blood feels like it's being pressurized. Like he's a plant in a lab being tested for its turgor. At least they cut a plant's stem before it goes in the chamber, though. The sap has somewhere to go.

Summary
It could have been worse. But someone should tell Buck’s spiked adrenaline–his racing heart–his shaking hands. He spent too long in the not knowing. Since this hospital two states away had called him to tell him that Eddie was in an accident, that he was in emergency surgery, that they couldn’t tell him any more details until he got here. That he was the only person listed on Eddie’s emergency contacts list.
And that last bit–that last little revelation–that extremely baffling piece of information that had left him scrambling to LAX for a flight he was certain he would miss–calling Christopher from the Uber to tell him, again, that his dad is in the hospital–well, it certainly didn’t help this confused, desperate reeling.

All Buck can feel is heat. Their new training center is on the hot side of the 5 freeway. Twenty degrees warmer than it is just a few miles to their west. And, look, Buck is aware that there’s not a lot of real estate to put an entire professional sports complex by the beach–and she’s also aware that compared to the altitude in Utah and the humidity in Orlando and the snow storm-to-heat delay shit Kansas City has going on–she actually has it pretty easy. But they’re doing midseason fitness tests today. Outside. In the middle of July. And the athlete next to her–Eddie Diaz–as infuriatingly talented and intelligent and likable and gorgeous as she already is–with those dark brown eyes and those stupid tiny shorts that barely make it over her ass and that stupid perfect ponytail that never has a hair out of place–is from the Texas desert. So she’s apparently completely immune to the nearly hundred-degree heat and the sun beating down from a cloudless sky.

“Meeting?” Eddie giggles into his skin. “Buck, it's Tia Pepa, you've known her for a decade.”
“Yeah, but not as your boyfriend,” he pouts. “It's different now.”
“She has a pet name for you. She literally brags about you to her friends all the time like you're her kid. The first question she asks me when I see her is how you're doing.” Buck feels his face flush, his focus turning back to the pot with a smile he can't hope to hold back. Eddie presses a kiss to the corner of it. “She loves you. Almost as much as I do. Evancito.”
