Just like a fairy, Will had thought. He looked exactly like the illustrations in the fairytale books he and his older sister, Grace, liked to read before going to bed.
Alternatively: Will thinks his new friend is some kind of fairy, or even a siren (but a good one!). After all, where do his fluttery feelings come from if Mack isn't one?
(Spoiler alert: Kid!Will has a crush, but he doesn't know it yet.)
