Work Text:
This is not what i meant when i said to get his number” Mina ran a hand over her face in exasperation, staring down at the item in question sitting guiltily on the desk between the two.
"Shut up!” Bakugou barked with no real force behind it, “He left it on the counter and I took it for safekeeping it's not like i stole it you bug-eyed freak” The cell phone seemed to stare back at him as if it could tell Bakugou was guilty. “I figure he'll come back if it's important to him. ‘Sides,” he let out a huff of air “he's always setting all his shit out on the counter it's like he wants something to go missing” Mina gave Bakugou a look that said she knew he was full of shit and that he had knicked the phone while the red-headed regular had emptied his pockets on the counter looking for change. (Bakugou had ended up letting him use the spare coins for his change as he always ended up doing). Mina gave him one last knowing grin before heading back out to the front counter, leaving Bakugou alone with the phone that belonged to a rather attractive customer who was a bit of a hot mess, emphasis on the hot.
The key jiggled in the lock, taking a little extra force to unlock the door and Bakugou didn’t hesitate to kick the piece of junk.
“Lousy piece of fucking shit. I could be working at a real fucking shop but no I had to take a summer job at a run down cafe that no one ever fucking tips at.” He muttered as the door finally opened with a drawn out creak. Bakugou threw his bag into the break room and began starting up the ovens and getting the coffee started. As much as he liked to complain about the shop, it certainly had a charm to it that made Bakugou stick around. Not that a certain regular customer didn’t have something to do with it.
“Good morning!” Mina burst through the front door of the shop at the last possible minute before her shift and flicked the open sign on. Bakugou gave her a grunt of acknowledgment before pouring himself a quick cup of coffee.
“Do you have to be so fucking loud?” he growled into his mug as Mina made her way behind the counter, tying her apron as she walked.
“Only because I know you love it” she gave him a shit eating grin before throwing in the mornings pastries. “Is Kaminari not here yet?” she asked looking around as if she didn’t know the answer. Bakugou scoffed, the day Kaminari was on time was the day Bakugou would eat his shitty work hat he refused to wear. The door rang open as the first customers of the day wandered in, and the two set about their usual routine. After a good 30 minutes of customers trickling in, most of them regulars, Kaminari burst through the door out of breath and with an excuse on the tip of his tongue.
“Save it.” Bakugou glared at him, his excuses got more extravagant every day and every last one of them was a lie.
“Wow Kami!” Mina exclaimed looking at the clock, “Only thirty minutes late this time, that has to be some kind of record!” With a mumbled apology Kaminari rushed into the back room to set down his things.
“Hey guys?” Kaminari called from the back poking his head around the corner, “What’s this?” His hand came up to reveal The Phone and Mina turned to Bakugou.
“Bomb brain here stole it from a customer yesterday” the pink haired girl was obviously having the time of her life as she put Bakugou’s head on the chopping block. “Oh.” Kaminari looked down at the phone and then back up at his coworker.
“Any reason or..?” Mina began cackling and left to help a customer who was waiting at the counter.
“None of your fucking business. Now put it back” Bakugou swiped the phone from Kaminari’s hands and slammed it, as gentle as he could in his embarrassed anger, back onto the table in the break room. Kaminari lifted his hands up in a sign of defeat before heading onto the floor to help Mina with the small line that had accrued.
Approximately 3 hours after the shop had opened a certain customer who was missing a certain phone wandered into the establishment. Kirishima Eijirou was someone that you watched as he walked down the street. He was a pure wall of muscle, built like he made his home in a gym, which was almost true since his day job was that of a personal trainer. But it wasn’t just that that drew your eye to him, nor his vibrant red hair straight out of a disney cartoon, it was that goddamn smile. He smiled like he stored the sun in his face and it was his duty to allow the world to view its vibrant beams through his freakishly sharp teeth. This absolute angel of a person happened to enjoy this particular cafe and had been coming there every day all summer long. Maybe it was because they made good coffee, maybe it was because the coffee was fairly cheap, perhaps it was the atmosphere in the cafe, or perhaps it was a certain spiky haired barista with a permanent scowl on his face and the mouth of a sailor. Kirishima’s normal daily routine involved waking up, getting ready, stopping by the cafe for 30 minutes and heading to work. However, on this particular day, Kirishima had skipped straight from wake up, to ‘Head to the cafe because your phone is there and your alarm is on your phone and you’re late for work you big idiot’. Kirishima rushed to the front counter and was greeted by the friendly pink haired barista who was giving him a rather odd smile.
“Mina! Thank god,” Kirishima panted, moving his hair from his eyes. He didn’t normally wear it down but today was a special exception considering he had to choice but to rush out of the house as is. “I think I left my phone here yesterday, have you seen it?” Mina turned towards the breakroom.
“Oh dearest Bakugou! You have a customer with a question for you” Mina skipped towards the back leaving Kirishima alone at the counter confused but too tired to say anything about it.
“Tell them to fuck off I’m on break!” Bakugou yelled from the back before Mina burst in the back room leaving Kirishima’s line of vision. Kirishima heard bickering from the back followed by a small crash and then the door burst open. There stood Bakugou, pink in the face but otherwise showing no signs that anything was wrong. He walked over to Kirishima waiting bewildered at the counter and slammed the phone down refusing to look him in the eye.
“This is what you’re here for right?” Bakugou glanced up and immediately wished he hadn’t. Kirishima looked so happy to get his phone back and with his hair down he was somehow even prettier than usual. Bakugou’s blush spread wider across his face, but if Kirishima noticed, he didn’t mention it, only picked up his phone and gave a blinding grin to Bakugou.
“Thank you so much man! I was dying without this.” Kirishima ran a hand through his hair, tugging on it a little as he continued sheepishly, “Sorry to be such a bother, leaving it here and all. I’m a bit of a mess” He gave Bakugou one last small smile before bidding him a farewell and running out the door. Bakugou honestly couldn’t tell if Kirishima had either never looked in a mirror or if he knew exactly how attractive he was and exactly what he was doing to Bakugou.
Closing time was nearly upon them and Pinky and No Brains were goofing off as Bakugou wiped down tables. They so rarely got customers around this time that they all jumped to attention when the bell for the door rang out, and this time Bakugou knew he was screwed. Kirishima had returned, but this time he was covered in sweat from a long day at work and it took all Bakugou had to not imagine himself licking the small drop that ran down his neck, catching onto his damp hair before it could finish its travels down to his well sculpted chest. Kirishima gave Bakugou a small wave and walked towards the counter to where Mina and Kaminari were standing like idiots. Neither made a move to help Kirishima and instead turned to each other, and then to Bakugou, who cursed and threw his rag down on the table he had been cleaning.
“What can I get for you?” Bakugou tried his best not to scowl at his two idiot coworkers and instead to focus on the adonis in front of him. Kirishima stood smiling a moment longer than was necessary before realizing Bakugou had asked him a question.
“Oh! Uh... just a coffee, black. I didn’t get my fill earlier since I was in such a rush.” He explained and began taking everything he owned out of his pockets and placing them on the counter in his search for the proper cash.
“$1.27 then.” Bakugou turned to glare at his coworkers, the least they could do was pour the man his cup of coffee.
“Hold on I know I have the change” Kirishima blushed a little as he continued pulling out receipt papers, lint, and coins out of every pocket he had on both his person and emptying his wallet onto the counter. “Really hair for brains?” Bakugou sighed reaching into the spare change and pulling out 27 cents for Kirishima.
“Why would today be any different than all the other days you’ve come in?” Kirishima continued to smile as he handed over the dollar, ignoring the rather rude comment about his hair. “Well I know you’ve always got my back” Kirishima joked lightheartedly lighting the room up with that shark toothed grin of his. Bakugou fought the urge to shield his eyes in the presence of that much light and Kaminari set down Kirishima’s coffee avoiding all the things spread across the counter that Kirishima was trying to shove back into his pockets.
“You know,” Bakugou started as Kirishima grabbed his coffee and rushed to shove the rest of his things away, “Your hair doesn’t look as shitty when its down” Kirishimas resulting grin was well worth the blush that spread across Bakugou’s face.
“Thanks for the advice.” Kirishima winked, actually honest to god winked at him, and turned to leave. “See you tomorrow!” he waved back at all three of them.
“Wait! You forgot something” Kaminari yelled after him but Kirishima’s steps didn’t falter as Bakugou picked up the piece of paper left behind on the counter.
“What is it?” Mina bounded over looking over Bakugou’s shoulder and Kaminari could see the blush as pink as Mina’s hair on the back of Bakugou’s neck as he answered.
“His phone number”
