Summary
Luke is five when he's forced into slavery and given to Jabba's teen son as a whipping boy to play with. Years of torture later, he manages to escape the Hutt's, but he doesn't quite escape slavery.
Vader is certain the Force is delivering a special brand of divine punishment. Every day, Vader hears the voice of the son he killed tell him how much he loves him, and about a day his darling son never got to live because his father was a monster who killed his mother and his beloved child. It gets worse five years into the life his son should've been living. After years of listening to his dead son's voice, Vader gets increasingly reckless. During one of his strategical emergency landings on some backwater jungle planet, Vader learns that maybe, just maybe, the Force didn't hate him as much as he thought.
Kix, Cody, and the rest of the 501st understand that Vader was manipulated into doing all the things he did. As far as they were concerned, he may as well have had an inhibitor chip. The clones would do everything and anything for their general, even secretly planning treason to keep him alive.
