Work Text:

Freddy has never entered the daycare when it was dark before.

He never really had a reason to.

It's main occupant, Sunrise, was the newest animatronic to join Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex, and was ultimately in charge of running the daycare during the day.

He was upbeat, energetic, and loved to spread joy wherever he went, whether if it was with his endless laughter, or with his endless offers of aid to help anyone in need.

He had become a good friend of Freddy's, and everyone seemed to have warmed up to him, despite his initial loud personality.

So when the power went out unexpectedly during the late night thunderstorm, Freddy was worried for his friends, and thus began making his way to each of their rooms, to check in on them and make sure they were alright.

Which was where his next destination had led him at now.

Despite knowing what it looked like, it was still difficult to see among the play area and child jungle gym as Freddy searched the area.

"Sunrise? It's me, Freddy." Freddy called out, hoping to get a response.

When he didn't, he frowned in worry.

"The power went out, and I wanted to check in on you. Are you alright?"

There was a sudden tapping noise nearby, making Freddy stop in place.

His eyes darted around, trying to find where that noise was coming from, when a familiar, and unfamiliar, voice spoke out.

"It's so sweet that you care so much.."

"Sunrise? Is that you?" Freddy kept searching his surroundings, determined to find his friend. "Where are you?"

"It sickens me." The voice growled.

Freddy suddenly looked up, where he locked eyes with glowing red ones.

The bear animatronic took a step forward, squinting. "Sunrise..?"

The unknown figure above him grinned. "Guess again."

He suddenly leaped off from where he sat on his perch, and landed before Freddy, causing the said bear to step back in surprise.

From what Freddy could see under the dim lighting, the figure before him wore dark themed attire, and bore a face sculpted in the shape of a moon.

The unknown animatronic began circling him with a calculating gaze.

"You must be Freddy Fazbear, the superstar I've heard so much about."

Freddy followed his gaze with distrustful eyes. "Who are you? Where's Sunrise?"

The stranger tsked mockingly. "Aww I'm afraid Sunrise is asleep and can't come out to play right now.." He came to a stop. "But I can." The stranger let out a laugh.

A laugh that was bone chilling, yet was basked in a familiar sunny warmth.

Freddy knew that laugh anywhere.

"Sunrise.." He gasped out in shock.

Sunrise scowled. "Don't call me that." His voice was laced with a poisonous venom. "I'm Moondrop, Sunrise's alter ego."

"Moondrop? Alter ego?"

Moondrop shrugged nonchalantly. "Or brother, if you prefer. I don't care either way what you call us."

Freddy blinked, mulling this information over. "I didn't know Sunrise had a brother."

"Can't say I'm surprised." Moondrop remarked. "No one does. You, along with everyone else, only see him during the day, when the Pizzaplex is active."

He suddenly got up close in Freddy's personal space with a smirk. "I only come out at night." He whispered in a low tone.

After a moment he pulled back with laughter that was tinged with a sharp edge.

Freddy was quiet as he processed this. An alter ego animatronic who only came out at night?

This was.. unexpected.

He would have to have a talk about this with Sunrise tomorrow after closing.

"I came to check in on Sunrise to make sure he was okay after the power went out." Freddy explained, stating his initial reasoning for visiting.

Moondrop's fingers curled inward upon his hips. "Well, sorry to disappoint, but you already missed him." He teased with a smile, before his eyes suddenly narrowed. "Now leave. You're interrupting my sleep."

From the way Moondrop could tease him like his prey, and then suddenly become cold and spiteful, made Freddy feel uneasy, but not fearful.

He accepts that Moondrop and Sunrise are not the same person, but they still share similar qualities.

And.. Sunrise was his friend. Which meant that the moon animatronic could one day be his too.

"I was not disappointed." Freddy admitted. "I came to check in on my friend, and I see he is okay."

A dissent noise escapes Moondrop, but he makes no further comment on the matter.

Judging from the silence that had fallen between them, Freddy takes that as his cue to leave.

He turned around, and began walking away.

However, he didn't get very far before Moondrop had suddenly spoken up, once more.

"Oh, and Freddy?"

The said bear stopped, and looked back.

Moondrop was grinning at him. "Nighty night."

The Moon animatronic snickered as he backed away, and when he spun around, his laughter crackled unruly among the walls, where it echoed as he walked farther away.

Freddy regarded the behavior quizzically, but a bit intriguing.

Moondrop was indeed an interesting character.

Once the Mega Pizzaplex had closed the following day, Freddy said his farewells to his bandmates and departed with his set destination in mind.

The daycare.

It wasn't hard to find the sunny animatronic in question once he arrived.

He had his back facing Freddy as the bear approached, muttering to himself as he was seemingly cleaning up art supplies.

"Sunrise."

The said animatronic stopped.

Spinning his head around, Sunrise beamed. "Freddy!"

Sunrise spun their whole body around and rushed forward, where he pulled Freddy into a tight hug.

Freddy reciprocated it with a little less enthusiasm, but still happily nonetheless. "Hello to you too, Sunrise."

When Sunrise pulled back, his smile only widened. "What a joyous surprise to see you here friend! Was there anything you needed!? Anything I can help with!?"

Freddy regarded him with a small smile. "Uh, no Sunrise, not today."

"Oh? That's okay! That means we have more time to playyy!" Bubbling giggles erupted from Sunrise as he merrily skipped around Freddy.

Freddy chuckled in response. "I'm afraid we can't right now, Sunrise, there's something I want to discuss with you."

Sunrise's head whipped towards Freddy as he halted to a sudden stop. "You want to talk?" He covered his cheeks in shock. "Is it a secret!?"

"No Sunrise, it's about yesterday's events."

Sunrise suddenly broke into a fit of laughter. "Oh yes YES! Yesterday was so much FUN! Remember little Liam's birthday party!?"

"Yes.. I do."

"And remember when all the kids played that hugeee game of tag and everyone joined in!?"

Freddy smiled at the memory. "Yes, I remember. But that's not what-."

"Yes YES!!" Sunrise hopped around, and was practically shaking with exhilaration. "And remember when we colored, and played pin the tail on the donkey and ate cake~!

Sunrise's energetic nature was contagious, and seeing him so happy reminiscing made Freddy feel happy.

But he came here for a reason, and needed to discuss it with sunny animatronic.

"Sunrise.." Freddy called out, rather patiently, and not angrily.

"~OF COURSE we can't eat cake but it's just so EXCITING to see the candles being blown out and~"

"Sunrise."

"OoOoO what's your favorite cake Freddy mines strawberry BUT I also really really really like CHOCOLATE and also do you-!!"

"I met Moondrop last night."

Sunrise froze. He spun his head back around towards Freddy, locking eyes with him. "W-what?"

Freddy smiled hesitantly. "I met Moondrop." He repeated.

Sunrise spun his entire body back around, and looked away. "When?"

"Last night when the power went out. I was worried for everyone, so I went around and checked in to make sure everyone was okay.”

There was a passing moment before Sunrise replied. "Oh."

He let out a quiet chuckle that lacked any enthusiasm. "That's sweet."

Freddy took a step forward. "Why didn't you tell me about him? Or anyone, for that matter?"

"Well.." Sunrise played with the hem of his clothing. "Well I..uh.."

He went uncharacteristically quiet, and didn't meet Freddy’s eyes again.

The bear animatronic frowned in concern. He moved closer, and placed his hand upon Sunrise's shoulder, causing the sunny animatronic to look up.

Freddy let out a soft smile. "That's alright if you don't want to talk about it. I won't force you to open up. I was just caught off guard. I wasn't expecting to find a different animatronic in your place yesterday.”

"Uh, yeah.." Sunrise rubbed the back of his head with a small smile, seemingly embarrassed. "Sorry I didn't tell you before. I just didn't know how you'd.. react, I guess.."

"It's alright."

Sunrise suddenly covered his mouth, and began giggling. "What did you think of him?"

Freddy smiled at seeing his cheery friend seemingly return to his normal self again. "He was.. different."

Sunrise kept giggling. "And..?"

"And an interesting individual who I hope to meet again one day."

Sunrise gasped happily. "You really mean that!?"

Freddy chuckled. "I do. But I want you to know, Sunrise, that no matter who's in control, I would still care about you, because you are my friend."

The sunny animatronic beamed at this, and before Freddy could see it coming, Sunrise wrapped him into a tight hug once more.

"You're so sweet~! We're going to be best friends forever~!"

Freddy smiled, and patted his back. "Yes we are."

Notes:

Hi!

Can I just say how cool of a character Sunrise and Moondrop are? Like their alter ego dynamic is great and I love it 💜
