Work Text:
It's been a week since Luz Noceda has been able to talk to her long-time enemy to best friend, Amity Blight. It all started when Luz went over to Amity's house. There was an upcoming abominations exam, and since Amity was so good in her track, Luz asked if they could study together.
Amity, being the gay disaster that she is, immediately accepted the offer, and invited Luz over to her house, forgetting that her parents don't exactly approve of their youngest daughter hanging out with a human that 'can't do real magic'.
Then Luz, being the dense and oblivious bisexual she is, walked up to the front door and was met by Amity's mother. To say the least, this interaction didn't end well, and, unbeknownst to Luz, Amity was severely punished for inviting the human to Blight Manor. She wasn't at school the next day. Take with that what you will.
Luz kept her optimism and figured that she must have been grounded, but the voice in the back of her mind told her that she wouldn't be missing school, even if she was grounded. When Amity did return to Hexide, she avoided Luz like the plague. This didn't blow over well with the Noceda, so one day she cornered the Blight and tried to figure out what was wrong.
Unfortunately, history repeated itself, and the only excuse she could provide was that Luz wasn't strong enough to be friends with a Blight, such as herself. Luz didn't buy it, but let her go, seeing that Amity just needed some time. They had been friends since they were 14 and Luz had seen the first scenario play out—although it was as a memory—so she just let Amity breathe, as much as it pained her.
Fast forward to the present, where Luz is still giving Amity space, and both of them are slowly falling apart. It seems that the entire school knows that they have a crush on each other, but they haven't done anything about it. They even flirt and joke about making out or... you know.
When another student asked Amity about all this, her exact words were, "It's totally platonic." All that Luz had to say was, "It's easier if I let the tension subside." With a shrug and her usual grin.
Luz was getting tired of this avoiding each other thing, and decided that she would corner Amity again to see if she could help. She had seen Amity in a few of their shared classes and at lunch and from what Luz could tell, Amity didn't look very happy at all. So, she devised a plan to get Amity to talk to her. This included getting Willow and Boscha involved, so that they could get Amity where Luz was going to be and then keep her there. Luz decided for a slightly more violent and much sneakier approach instead of just pulling her aside somewhere. Why? Because she thought it was cool.
So when school let out that day, Willow and Boscha—being the power couple they are—went to go lead Amity to an empty classroom where Luz would be waiting. Once she was in there, Willow would block the door with her plant magic, and, according to Luz, BAM! Problems solved.
It was all going according to plan. Amity was walking with Willow and Boscha and they were just outside where they needed to be.
"And why do I need to go in there?" Amity asked the couple.
"Well, you see, someone was being a jackass threw my potions book up on top of the cabinets, and I need you to get it with your abomination," Boscha shrugged.
"Boscha your girlfriend literally bends every plant to her will and you ask me to get your book?" Amity was frustrated to begin with, but this just ticked her off more.
"Oh, yeah," Boscha looked at her girlfriend with mock surprise. "Well, since you're here, do you mind just getting it?"
"No," Amity said bluntly, giving Boscha a look of disinterest.
"Please? I'll shut up about grudgby for a week," Boscha bargained.
Amity pondered it. She was very annoyed by Boscha's constant talk about the sport, and a week without hearing about it sounded amazing. "Ugh, fine," She turned around and walked in the classroom, only for the door to shut behind her right after she crossed the threshold. "Hey! What gives?" She'd whipped back around to face the door, and didn't notice Luz emerging from her hiding spot behind the desks. "Let me out!" She tried the handle, but it wasn't budging.
"Have fun~!" Amity could see Boscha wave smugly through the small window.
"Wha-" Before Amity could question any further, she was cut off by the human.
"Hey," Luz said quietly.
"GAH!" Amity just about jumped out of her skin when she heard Luz speak. "What the hell, Noceda?!" Amity looked mad. Very mad.
"Amity, please," Luz held her hands up. "Just calm down a little alright?"
"No! I'm not going to calm down!" Amity snapped. "You know why? Because you trapped me in a room with you!"
"Please, I just want to talk to you," Luz tried to inch closer. She knew if she held contact with Amity, she would calm down just a little.
"Talk about what, Noceda? How you got me in trouble with my parents? How you've been dragging me down for three years?" Amity was just spitting back out what her parents had told her. She couldn't connect with Luz again, especially when she knew the consequences for both of them. She would just have to cut off her friend of three years entirely.
"Ami-" Luz tried to talk, but was cut short.
"No! You don't have the right to use that nickname anymore! No weakling like you that can't even do real magic can call me, a Blight, any nickname!" She started to back up into the door, as she saw Luz was getting closer. She knew what Luz was trying to pull and she didn't want her anger to subside. That would put the Blight side of her mind out of the driver's seat and the Amity that loved Luz would take back over, causing both of them to get into deep trouble. But after taking a few steps, her back hit the door.
"Amity, I just want to help you. And I can't do that if you keep pushing me away," Luz spoke calmly, despite the anger from her best friend, and she continued to move closer, until she was right in front of Amity.
Both of them went silent. Amity's breathing was sharp and heavy, while Luz was still calm. Her whole demeanor radiated comfort, and it threw the Blight part of Amity's mind out of control, leaving her real self to take over.
"Please, Amity," Luz could see the shift in Amity's eyes and held out her arms for a hug.
That simple gesture made Amity break down and fall into Luz's arms sobbing. Luz held her and rubbed circles on her back, soothing her.
"Shhh, it's okay," Luz walked them back to sit in one of the chairs and she put Amity in her lap. Amity instantly buried her head into Luz's neck and continued to sob.
"I-I'm sorry!" Amity cried out.
"It's alright, you don't have to say anything," Luz rocked back and forth a bit to calm her best friend. "Just let it all out."
There were a few more minutes of this before Amity composed herself enough to talk.
"My...my parents..." Amity paused, thinking about how to best word what she was trying to say.
"It's okay, take your time," Luz continued to rub her hand up and down Amity's back.
Amity took a deep breath. "My parents, they... forced me to distance myself from you," Amity looked into Luz's eyes. They were filled with understanding and what Amity could only interpret as love. "They said that if I didn't, they would hurt you and I-" Her voice broke.
"You don't have to worry about me. I can take care of myself," Luz reassured her. She saw the look of pain in the Blight's expression. It made Luz come to a horrible conclusion that was only confirmed by what Amity did next.
"They... they also did this," Amity pulled up the sleeve of her school uniform to reveal a fading bruise in the shape of a hand and four small cuts in a row. It made Luz's heart drop to her stomach. "I-I had a red mark on my face... that's why I missed a day."
Luz didn't say anything and pulled Amity into another tight hug. They sat in silence. Comfortable silence. One that made Amity feel safe for the first time in a long time.
It was broken when Luz began to whisper. "You know I want you. It's not a secret I try to hide,"
This made Amity's heart race and her face heat up, but she let Luz continue.
"I know you want me. So don't keep saying our hands are tied," Luz took a shaky breath, but kept going on with what was in her mind. She had to get it off of her chest. "You claim it's not in the cards, and fate is pulling you miles away and out of reach from me." She began to run her hand through Amity's cotton candy hair subconsciously, but Amity didn't mind. "But you're here in my heart, so who can stop me if I decide that you're my destiny?"
Amity lifted her head up from where it was placed on Luz's chest and looked her best friend in the eye. She didn't like the sound of 'best friend' when it came to her and Luz. She never did. But neither of them had the guts—until just now apparently—to do anything about it.
Luz's eyes were hopeful as she said, "What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine? Nothing could keep us apart. You'd be the one I was meant to find," Amity smiled and put a hand on Luz's cheek. "It's up to you, and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. So why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours."
Amity loved everything that was coming out of Luz's mouth, but there was a feeling tugging at her gut, telling her that this would never be possible. Not while her parents were the way they are. So, she took a turn saying what was on her mind.
"You think it's easy. You think I don't want to run to you. But there are mountains, and there are doors that we can't walk through," Amity stood up and walked away from Luz to face the wall. "I know you're wondering why because we're able to be just you and me within these walls, but when we go outside, you're gonna wake up and see that it was hopeless after all." Amity closed her eyes and looked at the ground. It hurt her. It hurt her so much to say these things to the only person that made her feel safe. But, she was under the impression that nothing could be done.
"No one can rewrite the stars. How can you say you'll be mine? Everything keeps us apart, and I'm not the one you were meant to find. It's not up to you, it's not up to me, when everyone tells us what we can be. How can we rewrite the stars? Say that the world can be ours?" Amity felt tears begin to run down her cheeks, but she felt a pair of warm arms wrap around her waist and a head rest on her shoulder.
"All I want is to fly with you," Luz's voice was quiet, but not quite a whisper.
"All I want is to fall with you," Amity leaned into Luz's touch, loving the embrace.
This time, Luz's words were barely heard. "Just give me all of you,"
"It feels impossible," Amity had her eyes screwed shut, tears flowing freely once again.
"It's not impossible," Luz nuzzled into Amity's neck, her breath making Amity shiver slightly.
"Is it impossible?" Amity opened her eyes and turned her head to look at the girl who had her arms wrapped around her waist. "Say that it's possible."
"And how will we rewrite the stars?" Luz lifted her head to look at Amity.
"We'll say you were made to be mine, and nothing can keep us apart," A thought entered Amity's mind. What if I run away? It wasn't a new idea to her, but it was something she was actually considering now.
"'Cause you were the one I was meant to find," Luz knew what Amity was thinking. She wanted to make sure that Amity knew that she would always be there for her. Especially if that meant getting her out of an abusive household.
"It's up to you, and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be," Amity began to smile, as she felt her safe space with Luz return. She'd missed this in the past week. It was torture being away from someone you care about, especially when you've fallen as hard as Amity has.
"Then why don't we rewrite the stars? Changing the world to be ours," Luz hugged Amity tighter. "Come home with me. Live in the Owl House. Get away from that hellhole."
"Luz," Amity twisted around in Luz's grip to face her. "I would love that." The two ended up just staring into each other's eyes again, communicating many unspoken things.
The moment was broken when the classroom door burst open and Boscha came in.
"Hey, guys! What's-" She stopped when she saw Amity and Luz hugging and Amity's face was read and tear-stained. "Are you okay?"
Amity sniffed and nodded. "I'm much better now,"
"What happened in here?" Willow asked with concern. She hadn't seen either of her friends like this in a long time.
Luz looked to Amity, who conveyed a silent message. "We'll tell you later. We're just gonna go home,"
"Okaaayyy," Boscha drew out the word. She was suspicious, and she wasn't afraid to let that show. "I get it, you two just wanna go home and fuck."
"What?!" Amity snapped around to look at Boscha, her face completely red. "What the hell, no Boscha!"
Luz had also become a tomato, and she was just shaking her head laughing. "I mean, if you want me that bad, just say so," Luz joked, trying to get them back to their usual banter.
"Ugh, not you too!" Amity put her face in her hands and fell into Luz's chest in an attempt to hide her face. This made everyone else burst out laughing.
They all thought that it felt nice to get back to how things were a week ago. Even though it wasn't that long that the group dynamic was shot, it felt like forever since they all were like family.
Once everyone had calmed down, Boscha and Willow decided to head off because they had to go study or something. This left Luz and Amity to discuss how they would successfully remove Amity from Blight Manor.
"My parents won't be home until 4:30, so if we get Ed and Em to help, we should be able to get my essentials out of there in time," Amity explained.
"Sounds good!" Luz smiled.
"Are you sure that Eda won't mind if I stay?" Amity was worried about intruding.
"Eda won't care, trust me. Besides, you're not gonna take up another room. You can just bunk with me!" Luz was pretty sure that the 'night critters' of the Owl House wouldn't let Amity get any sleep if she went into a different room. They knew not to mess with Luz; she'd burned a couple of them with fire glyphs, and they all ran off scared.
"Really? Are you sure? Because I don't want to make you guys uncomfortable," Amity tried to give her a chance to back out, but Luz wasn't having it.
"Amity, you would never make me uncomfortable," Luz pulled Amity into another hug, but this time, she kissed the top of her head lightly, making the Blight blush profusely. "If you want it, we can make it work." Luz whispered.
"But... my parents, they-" Amity tried to continue but Luz cut her off.
"Ami, I don't care what your parents say. I can assure you that Eda won't let them touch us," She pushed Amity back slightly to make eye contact with her. "I promise, I'll always be here for you."
"Thank you," Amity whispered, her eyes tearing up a bit. And her voice was even quieter when she spoke again. "I want it..."
"Then, Amity Blight, will I have the honor of calling you my girlfriend?" Luz stepped back and put her hand to her chest, acting all dramatic.
"I've only been waiting for you to ask that since we were 14," Amity smiled and nodded.
Luz grinned her huge and adorable grin and held out her hand. "Join me, fair lady Blight, and we shall gather your things and return to the grand Owl House,"
Amity giggled and took her hand. "Yes we shall, fair lady Noceda,"
*le gay/bi time skip*
Luz and Amity were laying in their shared bed at the Owl House. It was late, and neither of them could sleep. So they just laid on their backs and stared at the ceiling. There was a comfortable silence between them, and the only sounds to be heard was the light snoring of King who was curled up on Luz's old sleeping bag in the corner.
It had been two months since Luz trapped Amity in that classroom, and Amity has never felt more free and safe. As she was laying there with Luz beside her, she felt like the luckiest witch alive.
"Did you know," Luz broke the silence. "That I'm the luckiest human to ever live?"
Amity chuckled. "And why do you say that?"
"Well, I'm sitting here, in the place of my dreams, with the girl of my dreams," Luz turned her head to look at Amity.
"Wow, you read my mind," Amity faced Luz and they smiled at each other.
Luz turned to her side and opened her arms as a silent offer for cuddles. Amity scooted over and curled up in the embrace of her girlfriend. They just sat there for a while, loving the way their bodies just fit together so perfectly.
"We rewrote the stars," Amity whispered, remembering the conversation they'd had two months prior.
Luz chuckled lightly. "We sure did, cariño. We sure did,"
