Chapter Text
Will knew something was wrong the second he stepped into the apartment. He couldn’t exactly pinpoint what exactly it was, maybe the way the curtains hung was different than when he had left that morning or maybe it was how the sound of how the floor creaked beneath his feet. Either way, he paused as soon as he stepped in, awaiting some grand reveal. But after a minute of nothing but the sound of his own breathing, he began to slowly shrug off his jacket and unlaced his shoes.
The air felt heavy and Will couldn’t explain why. His clothes felt itchy and tight on his body. ‘Maybe I just need to change,’ he thought, as if sweatpants would take away the feeling of being spied on. He walked to the bedroom, straining to listen for any steps that weren’t his or a clatter. He half expected a cyclops to be sitting in the bed waiting for him. A strange feeling of disappointment twisted in his stomach as he found the room empty. If there had been some secret monster, at least he could have known why everything felt so weird.
Changing into sweatpants and a t-shirt didn’t help the feeling and he was still tense with suspicion as he walked slowly into the kitchen. Every step was as quiet as he could make it and his eyes darted to every corner and to every shadow. He held his breath when he flicked the light on, still expecting a monster to be perched somewhere and ready to attack. Still, there was nothing.
As he grabbed a cup from the cabinet and filled it with water, he resigned himself to just being jumpy that day. It’d been a long day at work and he wasn’t used to an empty apartment in the first place, so his mind was playing tricks on him. With a heavy sigh, he shuffled to the living room and prepared to flop onto the couch and watch a movie (like he’d been doing for the past week).
Just as he set his cup down on the coffee table, he caught the scent of something familiar and felt a rush of movement behind him. He turned around in time for him to be knocked to the floor on his back, a weight sitting on his chest and something distinctly cool and sharp pressed to his throat.
“Missed me?”
Will grinned and raised a hand to trace his fingers across Nico’s cheek. “Dearly,” he sighed.
Nico smiled back at him and pulled the blade away, setting it on the table beside where he had tackled Will. “I had you,” he teased.
“Yeah, you did,” Will told him, “I knew something was off but I thought I was just going crazy.”
“You are,” Nico smiled, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Will’s nose.
Will smiled softly but then groaned in complaint. “I’m very glad to see you, but can you get off my chest now?” he asked.
Nico laughed and stood up from WIll’s chest. Will took a dramatic, gasping breath as he sat up that made Nico roll his eyes. He stuck a hand out for Nico to help him up. “My bones creak like an old man,” he complained as he stood up.
“You are an old man,” Nico patted his chest reassuringly.
“Rude,” Will pouted, “I’m like, one year older than you. And which one of us was born in the 1930’s?”
“Which one of was tackled to the ground in less than three seconds?” Nico raised an eyebrow.
“You sneak-attacked me,” Will objected, “And I kinda knew it was you so I didn’t resist.”
“How could you have known it was me?” Nico sat down on the couch, “I wasn’t supposed to be home until tomorrow?”
“It smelled like you,” Will shrugged as he sat beside him.
Nico looked at him incredulously for a moment before he blushed furiously and looked at the floor. “You’re a nerd,” he huffed.
“Your nerd,” Will cooed as he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Nico’s cheek.
Nico shoved his shoulder but held onto his arm, scooching closer to him. “I missed you,” he mumbled.
Will grinned and grabbed Nico’s hips, dragging him forward so he was sitting on Will’s lap. “I missed you too,” he hummed.
“I thought you didn’t want me on top of you,” Nico smirked, placing his hands on Will’s shoulder.
“I never said that ,” Will sighed, “I didn’t want you kneeling on my chest.”
“Same difference,” Nico said.
“ Not same difference. When you’re on my lap and not trying to crush my sternum,” Will teased, “It’s much easier to do this,” he darted forward and pressed a sweet kiss to Nico’s lips.
Nico hummed as he pulled away, his eyes fluttering open. “I guess,” he whispered.
