Work Text:

Ever since they had started living together..for work reasons, Chuuya has been finding the two letters 'DC' everywhere he goes. In the corners of paper, carved into ungodly places, even written on his shampoos. He's discovered the phrase hiding in every corner he goes into. Even somehow replicated on to the love heart sweets that he eats.

Now, he isn't as stupid as some people take him to be (cough cough...) he knows who is behind this.
None other than his freak genius partner. He's not that dim. Obviously, Dazai knows this. So what are his intentions? What is he planning this time?

Chuuya couldn't help but to feel on edge whenever he saw one of them, is it a threat? A sign? What could it be? As far as other people were concerned, it was a sign and symbol of a good partnership, but Chuuya knows it has to be more than that.

On his way to a meeting, he notices yet another 'DC' sign carved into the back of his chair. Though he saw these marks everywhere, he has never caught the culprit in action.

The meeting passes by slowly, thoughts flowing through his head about whatever Dazai's new hobby was. He couldn't help but notice that 'DC' could only stand for the first inital of both of their names. He didn't want to jump to conclusions, but it seemed painfully obvious what the two letters meant. What did it mean? As he flipped to the next page of his notepad, he noticed another 'DC' sign. A common occurrence which was only strange at first, but really, he was expecting it to be there.

The notes had stopped. Chuuya had stopped seeing them wherever he went, and for any normal person this would be something to celebrate. But not this time. What were Dazai's intentions?

A week passes with no more notes anywhere. Nowhere to be seen, and Chuuya forgets about the whole situation.

Until, on a particular Tuesday afternoon he discovers a 'DC' written in red ink. Before, they were only written in black ink. Dazai is especially the type of person to make subtle but still indecipherable messages. Instead, this time the phrase was written on a yellow post-it note. Unlike all the others which were hidden in his belongings, this one was carefully placed upon his phone which sat by his bedside charging.

Interesting, Chuuya notes. He has come to the conclusion that Dazai will show himself when he decides to, because there is no point in him blindly searching for an answer.

Nobody else in the port mafia apart from him knows of the yellow post-it note. Before, everyone could notice the engravings in public and Chuuya had been asked several times if he was the one who had put them there. It was a bit embarrassing because not many people believed him, but at least he had some people on his side. After the week had passed where he received no messages, everyone assumed that the whole ordeal had come to an end.

Meetings between double black were unsettling awkward, with the words unsaid but both lingering in their minds. Obviously, Dazai was waiting for Chuuya to bring it up since the bastard was unusally quiet. The demon prodigy seemingly never shut his damn mouth but now, when Chuuya most wanted an explanation he had decided to go mute.

Frustrating, to say the very least.

He let out a sigh, a sign of defeat, giving in.

"Alright you lanky bastard. Just tell me what's going on."

"Tell you what Chuuya? There is nothing to say." Clearly teasing...how irritating

"You know what I'm talking about!"

"I don't, I swear."

They have a miniature staring contest before Chuuya groans and shouts that Dazai knows DAMN well what he is talking about. The brunette laughs and shoots back:

"What do you want me to tell you about, Chuuya? There are a lot of things that go unsaid."

"THE MESSAGES"

"What messages?"

At this point, Dazai just takes pity on his poor partner.

"Alright, fine!" Dazai admits defeat, there is no way for him to get out of this one. Or maybe he doesn't want to get out of it. He was the one who started all this, he knew this was bound to happen right?

"Go on then."

"I like you."

"What?"

"NEVERMIND"

"No..I heard you, I just don't know what to say."

"Chuuya's going to reject me. I've ruined this partnership completely."

"No no! What I meant to say was..um...I like you too. As a partner."

"Just partners?"

"NO I didn't mean it like that. I like you in that way"

"That way?" That familiar smirk comes creeping onto his face again

"You know what I mean!"

"I don't. Can you say it again?"

"I LIKE YOU TOO. In the gay way.."

"Sorry I didn't hear you could you say that again?" This comments earns Dazai a punch to the arm.

"Shut up!"

After a while, Chuuya breaks the silence.

"Why do you like me?"

"What? I don't know. I just do."

"There has to be more than that..."

"Um well..I like your face."

"Sorry could you say that again? I didn't quite get that?"

"I said I like your face!"

"Sorry could you say that again I didn't hear you?"

"Hey! Chuuya's bullying me. That's my line!"

The ginger breaks into hysterical laughter as his partner has an offended look on his face.

"Don't worry. I like your face too"

"What was that?"

"Fuck off!"

"So...are we boyfriends now?"

"I guess."

"Wow. So anticlimactic."

"Shut up!!"

They stare into each others faces that they both apparently like very much.

After a minute, Dazai gets a pillow thrown in his face.

"Now get up. Its your turn to do the dishes."

"Aww, I thought I would get out of that because of my heartfelt confession"

"Too bad."

The next day, Chuuya notices a "DC" in red ink, encased by a badly drawn and ugly love heart shape residing in the rim of his hat. In return, He writes a "DC" in blue ink on one of the countless rolls of Dazai's bandages.
