Four sets of footsteps sounded through the woods. A family of four, a piglin, a raccoon hybrid, a siren and an angel.
Today, they had set out for more supplies from the nearby village, the journey going well, and they were on their way back.
The angel held a basket filled to the brim with supplies, potions, food, herbs, you name it. The siren held another basket filled with the same things.
Phil glazed at Tommy. “Mate, stop trying to trip Wilbur.”
Tommy sighed and stopped trying to trip the siren. Techno walked up ahead, making sure no one came to try and attack them, Phil stood in the back, his heightened hearing making it easier to know if someone was coming up behind them.
They all loved the forest they lived in, but bandits were common, and you could never be too sure.
They walked a while more, the once noon sun now among the treeline. They were almost home, as the journey took about half a day in total.
Phil tightened his hand on the basket when more footsteps joined their four.
He stopped, and the rest of his family did too. The extra footsteps did as well.
He stomped on the ground, and Techno brought out his sword. He was the only one with a weapon.
Oh, how they were stupid.
A person broke through the tree line. Tall and scrawny, but looked like he had the determination to win a fight. Others broke out too, all around them.
They were surrounded with only one weapon, not including the ones they had on their bodies.
Wilbur could sing, and Phil had claws.
The first person walked up. “Hello..travelers.”
“Hey mate, want to explain why your friends are surrounding us?” Phil asked.
“Just, I didn't want you to get away. See, me and my group noticed a bunch of hybrids living in our forest, doing shit in our town. We don’t really like that, ya know. So we wanted to make you an offer.”
Phil narrowed his eyes, Wilbur’s hands tightened around the handle of the basket.
“You and your friends get off our land, and you won’t die.” The person said, his hands tightening around the sword held in his hands. The other people unsealthed their own weapons, swords, axes and bows.
Techno huffed.
“Yeah no, sorry mate. My family owns this land. We aren’t leaving.” Phil said.
The person shrugged. “Fine by me.” He paused, only for a moment to smile. “It was nice talking to you I suppose. Attack!”
The fight began.
People weaved past all four of them, Techno talking out people with one swish of a sword, Phil’s own claws leaving gaping holes in people’s throats. Wilbur sang to people, and protected Tommy, the only one of them without some type of protection.
They failed to see the first person disappear until it was too late.
The last person had fallen to Phil’s own hands when a sword cut right through his chest.
He screamed.
Phil’s wings flailed as he fell to the ground, the sword still sticking out of him, he bled out onto the ground. Techno quickly took out the person as Wilbur dropped to his knees.
“Shit- Shit! Phil! Stay awake okay! You’re going to be okay! Techno grab a fucking potion!” Wilbur said, twisted Phil on his side. Phil screamed at the movement, tears ran down his face.
Techno quickly threw a health potion at Wilbur, Tommy digging through the baskets in search of some bandages. Phil will need stitches, but it will hold until they get up.
Blood gushed out of the wound, he was impaled by the sword left in his chest, thankful missing his heart and lungs, but it still fucking hurt.
Wilbur shoved open his mouth and poured the potion in. Phil choked and threw it back up, bile and pink liquid covering his already ruined chest.
“Shit, fuck Techno give me another one!” He was quickly handed one. “You have to drink this Phil, please!”
Wilbur poured the potion into his mouth, Phil kept it down this time. Blood stopped coming out as quickly.
Phil could swear he saw his wife looking at him through the trees.
“
Stay awake Phil. Don’t go to sleep.”
Wilbur said using his powers, Phil had to obey. Wilbur took out the sword and Phil screamed.
Techno quickly shushed him as he picked him up. “It’s okay Phil, we’re almost home.” He said as he ran through the woods and past the bodies, Wilbur and Tommy were quick on his heels.
The woman smiled, knowing her husband was safe, and disappeared.
