Ghost

Summary:

Vaughn’s briefly a ghost.

Notes:

*Shows up 20 years later with fanfic and Starbucks*

Not 20 years late to the fandom, saw this when it was on back in 2001.

This show was actually super original. A touring band being able to see ghosts.

To anyone else in this fandom, it’s an honour being in this fandom with you.

I own nothing.

Thank you to anyone who kudos or comments.

Work Text:

Vaughn turned to run from their latest mishap with a ghost and trying to help them move on.

Only he didn’t see the sign saying it was an electric fence.

He ran, intending on climbing it to get away, only to be shocked back.

The next thing he knew, he was standing over his own body. And the guy who was trying to kill him - Or something - was gone.

“Great.” Vaughn deadpanned, looking down. He looked back up, “Jane!” He called. “Scotty!”

A few seconds later, Jane and Scotty came running, having barely gotten away from their pursuers.

“Oh my God!” Jane exclaimed in shock, seeing Vaughn, and then looking down and seeing Vaughn.

“Oh! Shit, dude!” Scotty exclaimed also, seeing Vaughn.

Vaughn opened his arms wide, as if to say ‘I know’, briefly looking at the fence. Jane and Scotty turned to the fence too.

“Ohhh.” Jane said, realizing.

“What?” Scotty asked.

They both turned back to Vaughn.

“I got electrocuted, man!” Vaughn said, as he put his arms back down.

No one moved.

And then Vaughn yelled, “Someone give me CPR!”

“I got you!” Scotty said, running to bend down over Vaughn.

“Anyone but Scotty.” Vaughn muttered to no one, briefly glancing away.

Scotty and Jane looked at Vaughn.

”I’m joking! Go, Scotty!” Vaughn said.

“Right.” Scotty said, getting to work. Jane went and bent down, “I’ll do chest compressions, I guess.”

“Please, hurry!” Vaughn said, rubbing his eyes for a second, before he stared to pace back and forth as he watched them work.

Scotty and Jane started CPR. After almost a minute, Vaughn felt himself being snapped back into his body.

Vaughn opened his eyes to see Scotty and Jane leaning over him, “Ugh.” He muttered.

“You good, dude?” Scotty asked, as he and Jane helped Vaughn up.

“Do you remember anything?” Jane asked.

“You mean when I was a ghost for all of two minutes?” Vaughn exclaimed sarcastically. “Yeah. I remember.”

“That was close, man.” Scotty said.

“You think.” Vaughn commented sarcastically, glaring at Scotty.

“Those other guys are still lurking around here. We need to leave.” Jane said.

“You don’t need to tell me twice.” Vaughn said, already walking away from the scene.

Jane and Scotty followed.

-

It was the next day, and they were eating breakfast at some diner.

“You almost died.” Scotty commented, taking a bite of scrambled eggs.

“He did die.” Jane said.

“I did die.” Vaughn said.

At the same time.

“Right.” Scotty commented, taking a sip of coffee.

Vaughn poured another sugar packet into his coffee, seemingly looking miserable.

Jane took a bite of her pancakes.

“It’s just - “ Scotty started. “We almost lost you.”

“Your concern is touching.” Vaughn said, taking a drink of his coffee. He then looked between Jane and Scotty, “Really. It is. It’s - I would’ve missed you guys. Assuming I would've passed on. Or stayed behind for unfinished business." He trailed off.

“Aww.” Scotty said. “We would’ve missed you too. When you did pass on.”

“Seriously though. It was a close call. And I would’ve missed you too.” Jane said.

Vaughn smirked, gratefully.

“What was it like?” Scotty asked. “I mean, there’s seeing ghosts, and then there’s being a ghost.”

Vaughn glanced at him. “I don’t wanna talk about it.”

“Right. Course.” Scotty said, taking another drink of his coffee.

The three band mates continued to eat their food.

And then a random guy walked up to their table.

“What?” Vaughn asked curtly, glancing up at the man.

Jane and Scotty looked up at the man as well.

“Did I hear you say you became a ghost?” He asked, looking at Vaughn.

The three bandmates then realized at the same time that the guy was a ghost.

“And they could see you?” The ghost asked, briefly glancing at Jane and Scotty.

Vaughn stared at the ghost for a split second before responding.

“Okay.” Vaughn declared, downing the rest of his coffee. “I deserve a day off. I’ll see you guys back at the hotel.” He said, as he got up and left the booth and then walked out the diner doors.

“Did he just leave us to deal - I mean help - This ghost on our own?” Scotty commented, as he and Jane watched him leave.

“Yes. Yes he did.” Jane said, annoyed, still staring at the diner doors.

The two band mates looked at the ghost.

The ghost smiled awkwardly at them.
