Work Text:

Miles was confused a lot of the time about this soulmate thing. Yes, it's been a thing for this earth as long as time but it just doesn't make sense.

Especially since he doesn't have a soulmate.

He could never explain it really, he just knew he didn't have one. Everyone is always described as a tether between you and your soulmate you can almost feel the tie. His own Mami and Dad have the same feeling, and they've had that feeling of that tether their whole life, they knew there was someone out there that was their destiny.

But Miles never felt anything, and he knew he was alone in his universe.

But

When he met Peter, Gwen, and all the others, and when he was right in front of the Portal that threatened to pull him in, he felt it. With the slight pull of his body, He felt his heart slow, he was overwhelmed with love and comfort.

Miles knew that he wasn't alone. He knew he had a soulmate. Then that's when he realized that it wasn't Gwen, yes he had a crush but it wasn't the person he was meant to be with. It upset him but he came to terms with it.

Then he went into Pavitr’s universe, he was dealing with Spot, and he had to get rid of the barrier, and he tried to get rid of it by pushing his energy into the shield. But his heart started to slow again, the overwhelming feeling of love and the slight pull of his body.

His eyes found the tall teen, he raced towards them, jumping and breaking the barrier. His heart started to quicken and the pull became stronger, that's when Miles realized.

Oh…

After everything, every touch that Hobie gave him, made him sink, He felt electrified.

But Miles didn't know if it was Hobie, over time he saw the punk more and was near him at meetings and missions. Whenever the two were around each other, they were always somehow connected. Hobie would wrap his arm around Miles, playfully holding him, but it was never like how he was with Pavitr, he was more gentle, and sometimes rubbed patterns into Miles' skin, giving him comfort.

Miles brushed it off though, he knew how Hobie was. That's just how he acted, with Miles, only with Miles.

What started to make Miles second guess himself is when Hobie started calling him “Sunflower” The exact name that was his soul mark. Ever since he started to call him the nickname he hasn’t stopped. No matter where they were or where they saw each other.

“Oi Sunflower!” Hobie would yell to get Miles' attention, and he would turn instantly, his hands flying to his arm touching the mark that suddenly got goosebumps.

“Our Sunflower here…” Hobie would start talking about Miles to someone he thought was cute, trying to be the best wingman.

“Look at me Sunflower,” Hobie cried, reaching out to Miles, who was stuck under rubble like Hobie was, who was bleeding out, losing consciousness.

He barely called Miles by his real name anymore, and Miles didn't care all that much, he loved being around Hobie, especially when it was just them. He saw who Hobie truly was, not under all the hero pressure. Miles liked him, it was obvious.

But he believed that Hobie calling him his soul Mark was just a coincidence. He was from a different universe, It couldn't work across universes…could it?

“Gwenny make sure to get stitched up don't have to tell you twice,” Hobie said to Gwen who went through the portal with Pavitr helping her, she got some pretty bad wounds, but she was okay and just needed to get checked out.

“Alright Hobs, but no promises,” Gwen said back.

The punk shook his head and leaned back against the roof. Miles and he sat, looking around to make sure there were no more anomalies.

Miles sat with his legs crossed, looking over Pavitr’s home. He began to focus on a certain window as his thoughts made him dissociate.

“Sunflower?” Hobie said for the second time trying to get MIles out of the state he was in. As Miles focused on everything around him, he turned to glance at Hobie, But instead of him meeting his eyes, he was looking down at Miles' body. And when he looked down himself he saw the way he held his arm and became aware of the goosebumps once again, he automatically reached for his arm when Hobie called him “Sunflower” and he noticed the movement.

Miles cursed internally, now Hobie was going to ask why, but he wouldn't know how to answer, terrified of being wrong.

But what came out of Hobie’s mouth was not what he was expecting.

“Have I told you about my universe's Soul Marks?” Hobie said as he looked over the city, Miles followed his gaze.

“No you haven't,” Miles responded.

Hobie smiled to himself, his gaze dropping to his hands before started to talk.

“The marks are our soulmate's favorite flower, a flower that represents them.” Hobie finished, his fingers running over his own at a calming pace.

“I have not found my soulmate, everyone in my universe, never stood out to me as that flower, never even made me feel like I even possibly had a soulmate. Didn’t feel a connection.”

Miles realized they had the same feelings, the same ones he has continued to have.

“But ever since I stepped through that portal, I felt him, my soulmate.”

Hobie said Miles almost smiled at the mention of a ‘him’.

“I know I have a person for me and to be honest I believe he’s not far from me anymore,”

Miles needed to come to terms with his soulmate not being Hobie, He wasn’t his. But that didn’t mean he didn’t want to know who it was.

After a while of comfortable silence Miles spoke softly.

“What’s your flower,” Miles muttered, lowering his head onto his arms that sat on his knees. He turned to look at Hobie, his eyes shining with love.

Hobie chuckled and turned to look at Miles. But instead of answering he moved to shrug his vest off.

Miles was startled at why Hobie was taking off his shirt, but then he realized what Hobie was showing him as he turned his back to Miles.

“A sunflower,” Hobie said and it matched with what Miles saw.

The almost scar-like soul mark ran down to the middle of his back to his upper back. And it was one beautiful sunflower.

Miles' heart shuttered, and his eyes started to water. He reached out to touch the mark and he shocked himself. Miles stared longer and the realization flooded in.

The bond, their touch, the nickname. It was Hobie, it had always been Hobie.

Miles started to cry, his Soulmate was right next to him.

“My universe is a little different.” Miles started choking up on some of the words, and that made Hobie turn around to look at Miles, pulling his shirt back over.

When Miles met Hobie’s eyes he started to smile and continued to talk.

“The nickname our Soulmate calls us is on our wrists,” Miles said, moving closer to Hobie.

Hobie smiled slightly, listening closely to his friend.

Miles smiled again, and he started to pull his arm out of his suit, Hobie was obviously confused as well but he quickly understood. Once he got his arm out it was turned away so Hobie couldn’t see the mark.

Miles put his arm out for Hobie to inspect. And as his hands reached forward to touch Miles' skin, he got goosebumps.

Hobie turned over Miles' arm looking down at the similar scar-like mark on his arm but with letters. Spelling the word.

S U N F L O W E R

It took Hobie a few minutes, but he began to understand what Miles was showing him, he was showing him his Soulmate.

Miles was his Soulmate.

And for the first time Hobie saw Miles completely anew, he realized the glow that showed from Miles, his person the embodiment of a Sunflower.

He found his sunflower.

Hobie smiled and reached out to guide Miles to him. They rested their foreheads against each other.

Miles' eyes overflowed with tears. And Hobie wiped them all away.

“I found you,” Miles said, his heart aching with joy and pain.

Hobie laughed and started to run his fingers over Miles' cheeks.

“I found you first,”

Instantly Hobie kissed Miles with passion, and Miles immediately clings to Hobie. Their lips bruised the other’s, as they released everything they had to give.

They parted for air, Hobie rested his head against Miles' chest, breathing with his partner.

Hobie moved to rest his head on his shoulder nuzzling Miles' neck, which Miles gripped Hobie closer.

“My darling Sunflower,” Hobie's voice rang out as Miles smiled and held his person closer.
