Chapter Text
Easter Eggs / References
Chapter 1 & Epilogue
- The confirmation that Doyi was trying to get is whether the housekeeper really knows the backstory of her and Semi. (Chapter 1)
- Doyi had the memories of their previous lives but wanted the housekeeper to narrate it to Semi, instead of through herself. Reason being she wasn't sure if Semi had the memories too, and with or without, Doyi assumed that Semi would trust the words of the housekeeper more than her. Hence, when the story unfolded, Doyi revealed the truth of time travelling, which Semi also did. (Epilogue)
- When & to what extent of memories the both had when they time travelled to present, is up to your imagination. I didn't write it in, because it would be too long and is another story to tell.
Chapter 2 & 8
- Doyi’s alias name - Baek Jang Mi
- As mentioned in the story, the name directly translates to "White Rose".
- Baek = 백 = 白 = White
- Jang Mi = 장미 = 薔薇 = Rose
- Doyi chose this name to remember Semi who gave her a white rose when she was little.
- Semi’s alias name - Jang Mi Rae
- Not mentioned in the story, but Mi Rae translates to "Future".
- Mi Rae = 미래 = 未來 = Future
- Hinting that in the future, Jang Se Mi will come back for Doyi, vice versa.
- Also hinted afterwards in Chapter 8
- "I love you too, Do Yi 언니~ Whether it is 5 years, 20 years or in my next life. I will find you in the world we both exist in and love you back again.!"
Chapter 3 ~ 5
- In Joseon Era, Doyi is the one taking care of Semi when she falls sick.
- Mirroring the present era of Semi looking after Doyi when she had the car accident, and how Semi wished to always be by Doyi’s side to take care of her.
- Instead of Semi preparing the food that Doyi likes, Joseon Doyi is the one doing so for Semi (porridge, etc). Doyi also took notice of what Semi disliked (green onions).
- Both have the same approach of making the other fall in love with them through food as one method. Also, the un-embarrassing act of feeding.
Chapter 6
- Binyeo, the gift that Semi gave Doyi, was supposed to follow the drama. The one that Doyi’s family passed down for generations (in the hands of Chi-gam before to Du Ri An). But I decided to give it a twist and not make it that binyeo, but a separate one.
- “Don’t look at me like that, Semi-ah.” Because my canon Baek Do Yi can’t control herself if Semi keeps looking at her that way.
Chapter 7
- The part of Chi-gang “scolding” Doyi being crazy, as opposed to in the drama, Semi was the one being labelled crazy all the time.
Chapter 8
- Opps, this chapter has no easter eggs. Just smut. 😏
Chapter 9
- Fluff Fluff 🥰
- “또잉또잉 ~ Pretty Please” is a line from Dr. Romantic 3 drama. Not sure if you guys have watched it, but I really love the three series. Give it a watch if you enjoy doctor related genre shows!
- Sunflower is chosen as the flower design on the ring that Doyi gave to Semi because I wanted to link it to the sunflower tattoo that YHY has. Also sunflowers seem to suit the personality of both Semi and YHY, in my opinion. Bright and cheerful~
Chapter 10
- The chapter title sort of spoils that Chi-gang twisted the truth behind Semi’s parents death, which was cleared up in the next chapter.
Chapter 11 [Ending]
- The part where Semi walked into the river on her own free will, was foreshadowed in Chapter 3, Semi's nightmare. But as dreams only tell half the story or not an exact prediction of what will happen. Semi was the one walking into the river instead of Doyi.
- Doyi dying along with Semi by going into that river was on purpose so as to align with the words that Semi told Chi-gang during the bathroom episode
- Semi: The "Death Song" singer. Didn't she drown in the Korea Strait? With her lover.
- Chi-gang: So what? You'll drown with 어머니?
Chapter 12 [Epilogue]
- To those who have followed till here, will find out that Chapter 11 is not a bad ending.
- It ties back to Chapter 1 on the confirmation that Doyi was seeking for (See up).
- Also, re-writing the lines on how Doyi would respond to Semi’s confessions.
Summary - Timeline
First met at shelter house - Doyi (20), Semi (10)
- 5 years of company as per story events
Doyi left for arranged marriage - Doyi (25), Semi (15)
- 15 years apart as per story events
- 1st year: Doyi gave birth to Chi-jung. When Chi-jung was born, he was sent to the court by Chi-gang to live & study there. So Doyi had no interaction with him since birth.
- 5th year: When the cursed event happened. During the period, Doyi’s “husband” did those illegal stuff, which resulted in his death and also Semi’s parents.
Reunite & “Death” - Doyi (40), Semi (30)
- As per story events
- Doyi & Semi lived their own lives. Only meeting each other again on that fateful night.
Additional Note
After the “death” of Doyi, Kim’s family went downhill.
5 years later, when Chi-jung came of legal age (20). He married Du Ri An for marriage of convenience.
Different from the drama is that Doyi was not alive during Chi-jung & Du Ri An marriage.
Whatever happened during that period, was plotted by Chi-gang instead.
Chi-jung & Du Ri An only knew about Doyi from Chi-gang’s narration.
Present Chi-jung was not the evil Joseon Chi-jung, they are two separate personas.
Ending Note
Hope you guys managed to link these points or had tried/managed to guess it as you read. But no worries if you have not, maybe my writing isn’t that proficient yet 😬 As always, thank you guys for reading. I do read all the comments you guys posted, just that I'm too shy to reply or it will spoil the plot of the following chapters. I appreciate each and every comment though! I love reading them and it makes writing much more bearable when writer's block hits. Anyway..
I guess it's time for me to say goodbye to Jang Se Mi/Baek Do Yi and welcome Min Hae-il!
Please support YHY’s new drama!~ Bye!
