Summary
In the beginning, the beginning being Friday, October 24, 1890, there was a boy. A scholar of only eighteen years determined to spend every waking hour causing mischief for the priests that resided over St. John’s Seminary. It was a rather large school, the largest in Boston, and led by the most notable men in the city. Rector Tassier ruled over the school with an iron fist, made oh so evident by how the student body feared him. Our scholar was no different, a coward in every sense of the word. He was frail, an orphan begrudgingly taken in by Father Vasquez at the age of five to be raised in the church. Despite this, the scholar was, admittedly, a truly horrendous student. He slept in class, had a penchant for theft, and made an absolute mess of things, no matter the occasion. He had tried to be better about it; he really had, but he was determined to make a mark, one way or another. The scholar may not have been strong, or exceptionally bright, but he was more than willing to lie, cheat, and steal his way to notoriety. He was going to be remembered, one way or another.
