Chapter Text

Once he visited the tenents and looked over the estate in case of any problems, he sat down in front of his desk and opened the first letter.

Hello Mr Knightley,

How do you do? The last time we met you looked unwell. How are the little Knightley’s? Hopefully they are not recking havoc to Brunswick square.

I visited Miss Bates today. She talked of the preparations of Janes wedding and how suitable she believes the match to be. I have begun to speak to Jane more intimately. I believe that you were right that I should be friends with her. I should listen to your advice more often. I can imagine your smirk at having proved yourself right. We will talk more when you come back to Highbury.

By the bye, in case Mr Weston has not yet told you, Frank and Jane have been secretly engaged since before they came to Highbury! I know i should be upset at having been used, but their attachment is so clear that I can’t help forgiving them.

Forever yours

Emma

Dear Mr Knightley,

It’s been three weeks since you have left. Papa still asks about you and wishes you all the best. (He also warns to stay in doors because London air is dreadful for the lungs.) Hartfield has become very quiet nowadays.

Harriet and Robert Martin are engaged! I do not know if he wrote to you about it. Either way, I am very happy for them. He is a very kind and has a great character. I believe I was too harsh in my last judgement.

When are you coming back? I truly miss your company, but I understand if work must be done.

Best regards

Emma

Hello Mr Knightley,

A few weeks ago I had come to a sudden realization. I am writing to you because I could not adequately speak to you directly without making a fool of myself. After seeing and looking through all my beliefs and judgments and feelings, I realized the extent of my love for you. I am and always have been completely in love with you. I can not imagine a life without you in it. I know I am a shallow vain creature , and there is very little chance that you would love me but I can’t in good conscious keep that secret. I truely hope this will not harm our friendship, which I value more than anything.

I am and always will be your

Emma

He read the letter again to make sure his eyes were not deciving him. Yes. Emma had written that. He put on his overcoat and went to Hartfield.

He could see her from the window. She went to the garden and he followed. He could not describe how he felt. The anxiety. The excitement. The hope. She loved him, at least that is what he believed.

“Good-“

He took her face in his hand and kissed her. This felt like everything he had imagined it to be. God he loved her so much.He separated from her and took her hand.

“Emma, my dearest Emma, do you truly love me?”

She kissed him. He pulled her closer by her waist and she rested her hand through his hair. This was not a dream. She was truly kissing Mr Knightley. She seperated from him and said “does that answer your question?” He spun her around and kissed her again. “Yes.”

Notes:

The last part gives last episode of Anne with an e vibes but c’est la vie.
