Summary
If Steve were a smarter guy, he wouldn’t be camped out at the Hawkins Community Pool on the hottest day of summer, dripping sweat and sharing a sunlounger with Robin.
But absolutely no one has ever accused him of being smart, so there he is, an idiot. It’s the one week of the summer where he isn’t working, all his kids scattered on various getaways with their parents, and instead of taking advantage of being childless and smoking weed down at the quarry or seeing a movie with Robin in the new, air-conditioned Starcourt Mall Theatre, he’s here. Glutton for punishment, fucking stupid.
The pool is many, many things: the leading cause of athlete’s foot, a rendezvous spot for dating tweens, 87% piss, a feeding ground for middle aged housewives whose husbands work the day shift.
It’s also the only place Steve can see Billy without actively seeking him out.
It's the first week Steve has been child-free in months, so of course he spends it helping Billy babysit Max and work out his feelings.
