Work Text:
Vaughn was minding his own business, walking down the street, when he heard it.
A scream.
He abruptly stopped walking and rolled his eyes, not wanting to be the good samaritan and help.
He closed his eyes tightly, “Not your problem. Not your problem. Not your problem.” He was about to start walking, when he heard the scream again, opening his eyes.
He made a sound of frustration. Then turned on his heels and followed the direction of the screams. He turned right down an alley, hearing the scream again and walked smoothly down the street until he came to a field.
It was a full moon tonight. He knew what that meant.
Werewolves.
The person - a man Vaughn assumed - screamed again.
Vaughn made another sound of frustration, annoyed that he was doing the right thing, and hurried into the field.
In the distance he could see a figure bent over. Definitely a werewolf, in the midst of attacking someone.
The person screamed again and Vaughn picked up speed. When he was close enough he yelled “Hey!”, and the wolf turned from the guy on the ground to Vaughn.
Vaughn held his hands up, “Look, I’m really not in the mood for us to get into it tonight. I’ve been abstaining from this whole stupid feud thing for like, a century. So if we could all just go our separate ways and you can leave that poor kid alone, that’d be great.” Vaughn put his hands down and shoved them into the pockets of his long dark coat.
The guy on the ground was breathing hard, clearly hurt, with a scratch wound over his left shoulder. It looked like the guy put up some of a fight, and from the look of the grass, had ran from the woods in the distance into the field before the werewolf had got him. Hence only a set of claw marks and not anything else.
The werewolf wasn’t backing off.
Vaughn took his hands out of his coat pockets and did the only thing he could think of. He bared his fangs as his eyes turned pitch black, hoping to scare the werewolf away.
Howls were heard in the distance and the werewolf turned and took off into the woods.
Vaughn and the man watched the werewolf run off.
Then the man on the ground, who was clearly panicking, turned to Vaughn, “Holy crap! What the - Was that a werewolf?” He exclaimed.
“If I said no, would you believe me?” Vaughn drawled, looking down at the man, his face back to looking human.
“No!” The man said.
“Of course not.” Vaughn commented, turning his head up. He sighed, “That was a werewolf.”
“Cool!” The man said, picking himself up off of the ground, wincing slightly at his shoulder. “So what’re you?” He asked, facing Vaughn.
Vaughn glared at the man, who was still looking at Vaughn with excitement.
“Guess.” Vaughn deadpanned.
“Vampire.” The man said.
Vaughn rolled his eyes, “Got it in one.”
“Nice!” The man said, and then held out his hand, “I’m Scotty.”
Vaughn held his arm out and shook the man’s - Scotty’s - hand, “Vaughn.” Vaughn said, introducing himself. The pulled apart, and Scotty asked “Am I a werewolf now?”
“Maybe.” Vaughn said.
“Oh.” Scotty said, despondent, “So uh - What does that entail? Besides what just happened.”
“That’s pretty much it. Every full moon.” Vaughn said.
Scotty looked like the realization of what it meant was setting in.
“But we won’t know for sure until the next full moon.” Vaughn said. “And in the meantime, we should get that wound cleaned up. In case you don’t heal.”
“Okay.” Scotty said, swallowing thickly, an array of emotions in his tone.
“We can go back to my place.” Vaughn said.
“How do I know you’re not gonna eat me?” Scotty asked.
Vaughn rolled his eyes again, “You’re not my type. I go for the kind that comes in bags.”
“Oh.” Scotty said, “Good.”
Vaughn smirked and turned, heading out of the field.
Scotty followed him.
-
“How old are you?” Scotty asked, as Vaughn patched him up with a first aid kit.
“Old enough.” Vaughn said.
“To what?” Scotty asked.
“To party.” Vaughn said, smirking.
"Lame." Scotty said, chuckling.
Vaughn smirked.

They ended up moving in together. Only they figured they should get a place that wasn't in an apartment building with lots of humans. So they went searching for another place and found a house to rent. Only they realized they'd need another roommate.
So they put out an ad.
"Are you sure you don't have any vampire friends we could ask?" Scotty asked.
"No." Vaughn drawled.
A few days later a woman appeared at their door. She held up the piece of paper with their ad on it, that had been stapled to the telephone pole. "How weird are we talking?"
Yes, weird had been worded in the ad.
Vaughn and Scotty shared a glance. They turned back to the woman.
"Weird." Scotty and Vaughn said at the same time.
"Paranormal weird." Scotty said, to make sure she got it.
"I guess that says it all." Vaughn muttered.
"So. You're a werewolf?" The woman asked Scotty, putting her hands down.
Scotty blinked. "What? How did you - What?"
"I followed you." The woman admitted.
"You followed me? What? Why?" Scotty exclaimed.
"You want me to just trust two men who put up an ad for a roommate?" The woman said.
Vaughn and Scotty shared a glance. They turned back to the woman. "That's fair." Scotty said.
"So, I walked by the house after work to check it out and I saw you run out and get in the car, fast. So I followed you and saw you transform into a freaking werewolf." The woman said.
"Oh." Scotty said.
Vaughn hit him. "Did I not tell you to make sure you weren't being followed."
"I was in a hurry, Vaughn! It was dark!" Scotty exclaimed. "I'm new to all this! You're telling me you didn't mess up when you first became a - " He stopped.
"No. Please. Finish that sentence." The woman insisted.
The two men didn't say anything.
"Are you a vampire?" The woman guessed.
Vaughn sighed.
"You are?" The woman commented. "You're not denying it."
"Should I be denying it?" Vaughn said. "Just because I'm not denying it doesn't mean I am."
"You totally are." The woman said, knowing she was right.
Vaughn sighed yet again, but didn't deny it. He showed her his vampire face, his eyes turning black, before returning to their regular colour.
"I can see ghosts." The woman said.
Scotty blinked, "What?" He looked at Vaughn. "Is that a thing?"
Vaughn side eyed Scotty, "I mean, maybe. It could be. I'm not a fountain of knowledge!" He exclaimed.
"You kind of are." Scotty said.
"No, I'm not!" Vaughn said.
"You're old, dude. That's fountain of knowledge material." Scotty said.
Vaughn sighed.
They turned back to the woman.
"How can you see ghosts, exactly?" Scotty asked.
"I found this amulet. The Amulet of Sauren. And I read the latin." She started, holding up an amulet with a blue stone in the middle.
”The Amulet of Syrup.” Vaughn commented, eyeing it.
Scotty and the woman both gave Vaughn a look.
Vaughn briefly glanced at both of them. “Inside joke.” He commented.
Scotty turned back to the woman. "Have you ever seen any horror movie ever?" He exclaimed.
The woman rolled her eyes. "I know. It was a moment of weakness."
"No kidding." Vaughn drawled.
"And then a glow-y thing washed over me and next thing I know I'm seeing ghosts." The woman said.
“Cool!” Scotty said.
“Way to go.” Vaughn slow clapped.
“Shut up.” The woman muttered light heartedly.
“So, do you trust us enough to move in? We really need a roommate.” Scotty said.
“I mean, if a vampire and a werewolf can live together, I guess I’ll give it a shot. But if you come after me, I’m siccing ghosts on you.” The woman said, folding her arms across her chest.
“Got it.” Scotty said.
“Duly noted.” Vaughn saluted.
“I’m Scotty, this is Vaughn.” Scotty said.
“I’m Jane.” The woman said. “So, you guys put an ad up knowing a human - who had no idea about anything remotely paranormal related - would’ve answered it. I’m guessing your other paranormal friends - if you have any - said no, and a human was your last option.”
Scotty and Vaughn briefly shared a look.
“If I could’ve, I would have.” Vaughn said.
“I just got here.” Scotty said, referring to the paranormal world. “And we really needed a roommate.” He said. As if it’s that simple.
“You were okay with a human finding out about you, all because you really needed a roommate?” Jane asked.
Vaughn and Scott both shrug.
“Yeah.” Vaughn said. Like that’s the only reason. Which it is. “We were gonna ease into the whole vampire werewolf thing. Do like a whole interview thing, to make sure a human was cool with all of it, before revealing anything.”
Jane sighs at their stupidity. But also understands. “I get it.” She said.
-
It works out. Their living arrangement. Jane’s been living in the house for a week.
“So a werewolf, a human who can see ghosts, and a vampire walk into a bar.” Scotty said.
“Here we go.” Jane said.
“No, seriously, I mean let’s go to a bar.” Scotty said.
Vaughn and Jane shared a look of interest.
They turned back to Scotty.
“I could use a drink.” Vaughn said.
“Same here.” Jane said. “Can you drink?” She briefly pointed at Vaughn.
“Ha ha.” Vaughn deadpanned. “I can. And I can eat, but food doesn’t do anything.”
“That was going to be my next question.” Jame said.
“All right!” Scotty said, excited.
Scotty, Jane and Vaughn walked out of the house and went to a bar for a night of shenanigans and drinking.
